The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

TO ALL: Thanks everyone! I wanna keep this short as I have some questions to answer.

Chevelle: I am deadlifting in Merrell Road Gloves . They are a minimalist shoe, similar to Vibrams, minus the lame 5 toe ordeal. I also squat in them, too. I used to wear Chuck Taylors, but they always ripped on the sides and I wouldn't feel as stable. The Merrells have a stiff sole along with some great grip.

Beast: Kroc rows are basically the DB row's bigger, badass brother. Up the weight and do in the neighborhood of 18-20+ reps. Add straps if you need. Named after Matt Kroczaleski. Youtube it.

    Hypers
    50x10
    50x10
    50x10
    50x10

Extra three reps with the 365. Had a fatigue moment with the last rep and lifted it on my toes. Nice little struggler, but seriously, the submaximal volume is testing me. 365 is usually a single I rep to get to 405+. Breaking down mental barriers. Not to mention it was a hot box in my gym today. My shirt was drenched after the squats.

    Bako: Prong or lever?
Gaz: Look back at the start of this journal....volume is all I ever did.
Nick: I cut up my knuckles rubbing on my legs on those pulls. It was THAT sticky in my gym yesterday.
Cards: Felt fine, really. I think the only thing that gave me any fatigue were the hypers...lol. I hardly get DOMs anymore. Hmm.
Terry: You're tellin' me! Thanks, man!

Kind of a bullshit day - I have some hardcore DOMs in my stomach from the ab workout I did Tuesday and followed up from the front squats Thursday. Getting into position to bench, trying weighted chins, dips, basically anything that required my abs to stabilize...murdered me today. Good indicator that I need to go harder on my torso, and I did some adequate work Tues.

    Nice 215# x 6 is sold.

Is your assistance work structured now or do you just do what you feel like doing after the main lift?

Terry: Yeah, I need to get on that more.
Chevelle: My assistance work is based upon my weaknesses, really. I don't know if there is a plotted structure, but I just do what I feel is necessary. Thoughts?

Dunno. If it's working it's working.

Tried on those shoes today. Thought they were pretty damn nice. I just couldn't justify them seeing how I never run anymore, haha.

    Strong benching, Rob!

Good curling too, though I dunno how people can curl with a straight bar, it ruins my wrists.

I just watched the deadlift video. Form looks fine to me for conventional. Some people find keeping your hips lower makes a big difference, while others don't. I pulled 557 easy in a meet a few years ago just about completely stiff-legged and the bar probably 2-3" in front of me. I worked on better form for a long time, and still only pulled 575 over a year and a half later. Since then pulled 580 last year after not pulling for awhile after a back injury. I can pull about exactly the same with good form or shitty form so take that for what it's worth.
    Best competition lifts:
    650lbs. raw squat
    441lbs. raw bench
    580lbs. raw deadlift
    1650lbs. raw total
