Difference between powerlift bench and bodybuilding bench?

For a long time I have been benching doing the retract your shoulder blades/arch your back technique. I am wondering if just laying completely flat on the bench will do something different.

yes putting your feet up on the bench and having a flat back will significantly increase the workload on your pectorals when benching...although if you're more concerned with body building there are better exercises to build up your chest

They are definitely 2 different techniques because they are 2 different goals. For powerlifting you are trying to move as much weight as possible from point A to point B utilizing evey muscle you can to do the lift as well as using leverage (driving thru the feet, arch in back, pulling the bar apart as you press)

For bodybuilding its more about trying to isolate the chest as much as possible and place most of the stress on the pecs. Placing your feet up on the bench or putting them together on the floor will create a joint stress transfer to the pecs and not completey locking out at the top. As stated in my artiicle http://www.wannabebig.com/training/a...-strong-chest/ there are better option for training for dvelopment.
