Five members of Monster Barbell of Alabama competed at the APF Georgia yesterday. We had a great day! All five winning their divisions with a lot of PR lifts. Ist let me say that the meet was super as all of Jon Grove's meets are!The judging was excellent with Mike and Beverley McDaniels and Darryl Hoard keeping everything consistant and even for all lifters.
I had the pleasure of coaching my Grandson Tyler Wiemann in his 1st meet! That was awesome. He and our other 13-15 lifter Josh Thrasher (2010 AWPC 114 World Champ) had a fun and heated personal battle for gym braggin' rights that I'm sure will carry over to next weeks APF Mississippi! They went into the deadlift tied and Josh pulled 11 more on the last DL (still tied after 2 rounds). It should be good next week as Tylers 3rd DL flew off the floor with a lot to spare. I'm only going to call their openers next week and let them go at it from there!
Big Tim Teal at 45-49 308s won the Masters Classic Raw division with (if I remember right) 1274, highlighted with his 1st meet 501 Deadlift. He gave 551 a good shot! Tim set the APF Raw American record at 308 45-49 in the bench and deadlift. Way to go Tim! Only his third meet and he's won 2 Alabama and a Georgia Championship!
Our 23 YO Junior Brandon Ganey won the 308 Junior Equipped with 1267 (I think) In his 1st full meet. He's only been back training a couple of month after an almost 2 year layoff for health reasons.
I won the open 308 Classic Raw division with 1537. It was off my best raw total but I had a good time. I missed Odd Haugen's 639 >50 record with a 644 3rd attempt. I squatted it pretty good but cut it short. Ended the day with 600. My soon to be replaced shoulder really got my bench. The 364 opener went OK, but I could barely get 402 off my chest twice. Ended with a 573 deadlift. Considering all that's happening to my old body right now I'm pretty happy with the turnout.
Like I said, we'll all be at Garry's meet next week along with Josh's dad Johnny back on the platform with us. Can't wait!!!!
