    World's Strongest Man 2010 Results

The 2010 World's Strongest Man contest has just wrapped up...

    1st - Zydrunas Savickas (Lithuania)
    2nd - Brian Shaw (USA)
    3rd - Misha Koklayev (Russia)
4th - Stefan Solvi Petursson (Iceland)
    5th - Travis Ortmayer (USA)

Zydrunas Savickas managed to defend his title and took home a big win in one of the closest WSM contests ever; winning the tiebreaker after finishing even with Shaw in points. Z also broke the log press record with a 462 lbs log C&P (210 Kg).

Other competitors in the finals were Derek Poundstone (USA), Nick Best (USA), Terry Hollands (UK), and Ervin Katona (Serbia), and Jason Bergmann (USA).

What happened to Poundstone? I knew he tore his quad, but I thought that had been mostly rehabbed?

I believe that Poundstone may have sustained an additional injury (shoulder). Savickas injured his quad on the squat in the prelims but was able to push through, and Ortmayer was injured on the max log in the finals (either crushed his foot or fell on the platform).

I thing big Z has asserted himself as one of the greatest strongmen and strength athletes in general with this win. Congrats to him, and I think next year Shaw has a good shot at it if he improved his pressing power. Gotta root for our local big man!

poundstone tore his quad in late august, a month isn't anywhere close to what he'd need to rehab it..

    Video

check out 4:01, appears to be 635ish on the bar.. looks painful.. the swelling and bruising not good either..

good to see Shaw is one step closer to 1st... I'd like to see an american standing on the top next year..

Zydrunas has an outstanding record with numerous IFSA, Arnold, and WSM titles.

Shaw was tied with Big Z in the end and lost on the tiebreaker so he is definitely right there.

Thanks for posting these.... I have WSM set to record on the DVR and every time I see one recorded it turns out to be an old basketball game or something that the guide just called WSM to mess with me.

Misha has to be considered the most well rounded strength athlete with a 3rd place finish and then declaring he's switching to Oly competetion.

    1) I would feel dick losing to a man with a torn quad
    2) I would feel dick beating a man with a torn quad

    poundstone is crazy

No kidding man, the guy is a beast. He must be punishing himself for his performance at WSM...

It'll be interesting to see how today's results go.

He has also dabbled in powerlifting, definitely a unique athlete.

The cool thing about Poundstone was he showed up when the competition started, barely warmed up, then pressed a 315lb block during the press medley that no one else came close to doing. He also did it with no chalk, wrist wraps, belt, or a shirt. He's a beast.

David finished 4th, and he messed up on the deadlift medley which is usually a good event for him - otherwise he probably would have been in 3rd. Either way it is a great placing in a tough field.

thanks for the updates on both events...

I hate that we have to wait until Dec. to watch WSM...I definitely feel bummed that Poundstone didn't win this year at WSM...I was really hoping that it would be his year..but that injury he acquired prior to WSM was pretty horrific, he's a champion just for competing and then to roll right into ASM? madness!

is ASM a televised event? or do you think any youtube vids will be up?

WSM is usually on marathon style on Christmas day. Unless they decide to change it.

ASM is not televised but it was held in conjunction with the Olympia festival this year.

I will keep an eye out for videos on YouTube and post them here; there are some of WSM on there as well.
