The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Update

Went in on Monday and did some ME Lower.

Deadlifts, working up to a single at 185kg, but lower back was sore, so left it there and went on stationary bike for a bit to get some bloodflow through knee.

Had to go to the Walk-In Centre last night. Asthma attack, quite a bad one. Inhaler was empty. Managed to procure a new one, but chest still feels like a gorilla's sitting on it, even today, haha.

Rarely get troubles with my asthma, but when it does flare up, it's quite scary.

In other news, reached an agreement with Alex: going to be cutting down to 82kg (a drop of 8kg or 17.6lbs). Despite being stronger and faster than ever, I don't feel 100% happy with my shape and weight atm, so going to trim down and do it properly.

I'll be able to enter the PLing meet in the 82kg class. I'll be lighter on my feet for running events. And, losing a stone and a half, I should be pretty damn ripped, too.

I can sympathise with the Asthma man, i have to have two Inhalers everyday to keep it under control. Used to be terrible in my youth but now i'm the same, just gets bad every now and again, rest of the time there's no problems.

Thanks bud! Shall try not to - these things happen so very rarely that making sure there's a full inhaler in the house just falls down the list of priorities, lol. Until I need it, that is.

Oh god, man, it's awful isn't it? When the attack comes on there's nothing you can do but sit and hope it goes away quickly.

My chest's still killing me even now, lol.

    ME Upper

    CGBP:

    20xbar
    10x40(88)
    4x50(110)
    1x65(143)
    1x75(165)
    1x85(187)
    3x100(220)PR

Dead Press (Pins 2" from Chest):

    6x40(88)
    Add Doubled Minis
    5x40(88)
    1x50(110)
    1x55(121)
    1x55(121)
    1x55(121)
    1x55(121)
    1x55(121)

    Barbell Row/Pendlay Supersets:

    10x60(132)
    10/6x85(187)
    6/4x85(187)

    Pullups:

    6, 5, 5, 4

    ----------
    Summary:

A good session today. Decent CG PR. Was originally going for two, but went for the third and just getting it.

Dead press from the rack was pretty damn tough with the double minis. Hopefully will work my weak spot (2" from chest is where I stall on ME attempts).

Rows were good, too. Originally going for a top set of 100kg, but lower back still sore from the deadlift session the other day, so made a tactical decision to leave that set out.

Pullups are tough. Hopefully this cut, from 90kg (198lbs) to 82kg (180lbs) will make a big difference to bodyweight movements.

Chest feeling a tad better after the workout, still aching a bit - if think training it may have loosened the muscles somewhat. Holding breath whilst lifting may have helped a little, too.

Knee hardly bothered me. Only time it twinged was trying to get into position on the dead press.

Good day. So good, in fact, I was about to put the title as DE then remembered it was an ME day.

Cheers Tom! Gonna take it reasonably slow - 1-2lbs per week, or so. No big rush. Would like to ave a bit of time to build strength before the comp in Sept, but hey ho.

I'd Recommend Carb-Nite for the weight loss mate. On my halfway through the third week and I was 118.8 this morning down from 230.4. It's crazy eating junk once a week and feeling your metabolism ignite while your doing it! Whats your e-mail bud?

Cheers for the offer, bud, but my coach has got it all in hand! Will be doing something similar, with refeeds, extra carbs around workouts etc.

    Summary:

Mixed bag today with my body sending me lots of mixed signals.

Knee and the quad right above it were 'tickling' rather than hurting.

Lower back, which had been fine all day, started to twinge on the squats, started to really twinge on the run, but then was absolutely FINE on the rack pulls, where I moved the most weight I've ever held in my hands...

Shoulda done a bit more - some more running and some GMs, but because my body was sending me mixed signals I was taking it slow, which meant I ran out of time.

Think i'm gonna have to try some Westside type stuff after HCT-12...if it's kind enough on the joints that is. HCT seems to be slowly wearing away at me haha.

It's worth a go, bud. I find the speed work and band work allows you to get the extra volume in without stressing the joints too much.

Though saying that, I've got a blown knee, a sore shoulder and an aching back, so what does that tell you, lol?

Cheers Nick! Strength on the back burner the next couple of months while I chisel away at the insulation, but after feeling 450lbs in the hands, I don't think it'll be too long before I'm moving 500lbs, either from the rack or the floor. Maybe by the end of the year?

A nice goal, at any rate.

Cheers bud! Knee's starting to feel alright now, too, so hopefully will be pulling from the floor again soon.

Starting my cut as of this week coming. There's a chance that strength will take a hit, I know. As long as I'm keeping Deads in the 4ppps+ range and bench above 2pps, then I'll be happy. Once I'm a lean, mean 82kg, can work on staying at that weight but lifting more and more.

THEN back home and the following running:

    1 mile out @ 10;30 pace.

Then 4 sets of the following intervals:

    100 metres strides
60seconds jogging on the spot, knees high

    Then 1 mile back @ 9;30 pace.

    ----------
    Summary:

    Happy with today's efforts.

At the beginning of the week, I could barely breathe. Took several days for chest to stop hurting all the time.

Then today, a decent gym sesh followed by some running. Chest feels fine. Knee feels fine. Back feels fine.

    Everything's good.

DE Bench was fun - certainly getting faster. After the 65kg the 50kg was LAUGHABLE - felt like I was benching the bar, haha.

Was meant to do two more sets of pullups, but had zero strength left in the lats following the rows.
