The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks Nick! Been thinking about chopping it in for something a bit slower and a bit more laid back, but I've just dropped over a grand keeping this one in good nick, so think I'll keep it for this season, get some more smiles out of it, then maybe look at roadsters/cruisers next year.

    Long Run

    11k Run

    First 10k in 1hr 13mins 09secs.

Then a final 1k slow jog to cooldown.

    ----------
    Summary:

No cramps. No stitches. No slowing. No walking.

Just a good, solid run, completing 10k 9mins faster than I did it last week.

Very pleased with how it went.

A few contributing factors that I need to bear in mind for future runs.

Ran later in the day so the weather was cooler; this was a big help.

Took a sports drink, rather than plain water. This was a help, too.

Had a huge Sunday dinner (gammon, turkey, silverside beef, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, various veg, yorkshire puddings, stuffing and a dessert) last night. Then a big lunch a few hours before this run. Therefore I was well and truly carbo loaded and ready to rock.

So things to remember: run when it's cool, drink a sports drink and eat, eat, eat beforehand.

    Squats:

    4x105(231)
    2x120(264)

    12x60(132)
    6x90(198)
    12x60(132)

    Cable Pullthroughs:

    50x55(121)

    Stationary Bike Intervals:

    3mins warmup
    6x 15secs sprint, 45sec cooldown
    5mins cooldown

    ----------
    Summary:

The earlier sets were harder than the later sets. Knee was stiff to begin with and legs took ages to warm up. The first set of 80kg squats felt ludicrously heavy.

No difference between the 140, 155 and 160 sets though; all three felt equally tough.

The heavy reps are slow atm; I think leg strength is lagging behind a tad. This means that the lower back is having to support the weight longer. Once I get out of the hole and the glutes engage, BANG, I'm upright.

Need the quads to catch up. I'm sure they will, now I'm back squatting heavier again.

My current PR is 167.5kg. I might, might, have had that in me today. I'll smash it within the next few weeks.

    MEH Upper

    Yes, MEH upper, not ME.

Achey joints and lethargy are the order of the day today.

Gym was busy. Worked up to a scruffy single on the bench at 107.5kg(236lbs). Was meant to be a double, but arms/shoulders were having none of it tonight.

Did some paused benching with a plate aside, then some rows before going home for a run.

Was meant to be a mile and a half, but did a mile and knee decided to play silly buggers again, so called it at that.

Had my haircut today; think I angered Crom.

On vacation in Cape Verde next week. All inclusive, white sands, blue skies. Will make the most of it then come back and hit it hard.

you've been smashing it so well recently bud that you're bound to have an off day now and again (I have plenty of them!).

get some guinness in you, rest your knee, go on holiday and have a great time with your missus, then come back and smash it again!

Right, guys. I'm off on vacation tomorrow for a week. Gonna recharge, refuel etc.

Before I go, I've made the first book in my fantasy novel series free for the next five days!

    The Descent to Madness

If you like fantasy novels with a twist, sprinkled with some dark humour and brutal violence, you'll like this series of books.

Take a look at the first book (you've already read it Mac!!) while it's free and see what you think!

    Cheers guys

Back from Vacation!! ME Lower (to ease back in...)

    Deadlifts:

    10x60(132)
    5x60(132)
    4x90(198)
    2x105(231)
    1x135(297)
    1x145(319)
    1x160(352)
    1x180(396)

    GMs:

    10x60(132)
    10x60(132)

    Cable Pullthroughs:

    20x80(176)
    20x80(176)
    40x55(121)

    Bent Over Lat Raises:

    12x10s(22s)
    12x10s(22s)
    12x10s(22s)

    Then HOME for a run:

    1.5miles 14mins 58secs

    ----------
    Summary:

Hey guys. Back from vacation. Had a great time, but also glad to be home.

Getting back into the swing of things, but feeling achey and lethargic. Went through the motions today with some Deads and a run. Back and joints weren't feeling 100%, but wanted to grab a 180kg as I always feel abysmal if I don't, lol.

Run went okay, a bit quicker than I was expecting, tbh.

Giving it a week to get the blood flowing again, then going to start with a slow and steady cut, unleash the beast within, haha!

Here's some pics from the vacation, for your delectation. Went to Sal, one of the Cape Verde islands, in the Atlantic, 300miles from the West Coast of Africa. It was like Tatooine, or the surface of Mars. Devoid of wildlife and plantlife. Real desert island.

Went quad biking across the desert, took a Land Rover up a mountain, went sailing in the sea on a Catamaran and took a swim in a salt lake in the crater of a volcano.

    Damn good holiday.

    ME Upper

    Bench:

    20xbar
    4x60(132)
    2x70(154)
    1x90(198)
    3x100(220)

    Paused Bench (1.5" from Chest):

    8x60(132)
    8x60(132)
    8x60(132)

    Underhand EZ Bar Rows:

    10x45(99)
    10x45(99)

    Barbell Rows:

    12x70(154)
    12x60(132)
    12x60(132)

    ----------
    Summary:

Decent first upper body session after the holiday.

Very happy with a triple at 100kg; didn't feel strong today, so was only aiming for a double, but managed the third. A fourth would've been very tough to get. It won't be long, however, before I'll be able to bust out 100kg for 5 reps. In my mind, that'll be the day I own that weight, haha.

Underhand rows with a straight barbell hurt my bad wrist, so experimented with the EZ bar today; seems to work much better. Got a nice bicep pump from it.

Commencing cut from this week coming. Aiming to drop about a stone (14lbs). Nice n slow, maintaining or improving strength as I go. I foresee great running PRs on the horizon.

    ----------
    Summary:

Awful day, with no strength or energy to speak of. Probably diet or sleep related. Will get a firmer grip on things and no doubt they'll improve.

155kg was meant to be a double, but dumped the second rep on the pins. Not dumped a squat in a long while.

Wanted to do a 20 repper with 105kg, but had nothing in the legs. Likewise, wanted to do some front squats, but again, nothing left.

Did some GMs, got out of there, drew a line under it and will move on.
