The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    ME Upper and Short Run

    CGBP:

    2x70(154)
    1x90(198)
    2x100(220)Rep PR

    10x60(132)

    Decline DB Bench:

    6x30s(66s)
    7x30s(66s)
    10x20s(44s)

    Kroc Rows:

    6x30s(66s)
    10x30s(66s)
    8x30s(66s)

    EZ Bar Underhand Rows:

    12x60(132)
    12x60(132)
    15x60(132)

    Then HOME for a RUN

    1.5miles in 14mins 18secs

    ----------
    Summary:

    A better day, today.

CGBP felt reasonably strong. DB Benching less so, but mainly because my left wrist doesn't feel strong enough to hold the DB steady as I'm pressing.

Kroc rows were interesting. Could certainly go higher on the reps if I used straps, so might do that next time.

Underhand rows are good fun - get quite the bicep pump.

Had zero energy on the run, though seemed to put in a reasonable time, so quite happy with that.

Then HOME for a SLOW RUN:

    1.5miles in 16mins 3secs

    ----------
    Summary:

Full of beans today, don't know why, but had plenty of energy despite it being 30degC (86f) outside (really warm for our little isle).

The speed squats with 80kg felt great. Was sinking them low as low can be and springing up faster than ever. Knee held up okay.

Zercher squats... bloody hell, they're man-makers and no mistake! Going to have bruises across my arms tomorrow, I think. Was meant to use 70kg, but I'm a pussy, so dropped it 10kg to 60, haha. Was sinking them low enough to touch the bar on my knees.

Stiff Legs were fine, as always when I do them from blocks.

Run was okay, too, though my beans had pretty much run out by that point, haha.

    Summary:

Hottest day for a long while in Britain. Car said 38degC this morning (100f) though I suspect it's closer to 32-33C.

Gym was sweltering hot. Again, like yesterday, went in early and without a breakfast and was full of energy. Very bizarre.

Viking Presses were fun. To do them, you wedge the barbell into the corner of the room as if you're going to ghetto row, but then use it for single-arm pressing instead.

Underhand rows continue to hurt my wrists, for some reason. Played with the grip a bit and a narrower grip is a bit kinder on them.

Was going to do some Dead Benching against bands instead of the JM Presses, but the rack was being used by others.

In Zercher Squat news, my arms are nicely bruised today, haha! Doesn't surprise me in the slightest - they were brutal!

Great effort as always, even your Rows are impressive now! I know what you mean with the heat, its been killer. I used Zerchers for a stint a few years ago and agree that they're brutal!

    BANG!

Deadlifting tonight. Was working up to 200kg.

Got to 145kg and POP! felt my lower back go. Drove immediately home.

Hate it when this happens. Always the light weights and always when you least expect it.

Cheers bud! Feels worse after a night's sleep - usually does, lol.

Takes me 5 mins to hobble from room to room, stopping every couple of steps for a breath. Can't sit comfortably and shooting pains down my left leg.

Happens at least once a year; I reckon a coupla days and it'll be alright again. Plays into my hands, really, as I'm cutting now, so I can just spend a few weeks lifting soem really light weights as it heals.

Usually end up coming back stronger after a few weeks of being extra light and extra careful, lol.
