Haha, I've had better days, lol.

I'm sure it'll heal quickly enough, though.

I think the several hours of riding my sportsbike the day before deads probably didn't help. I've said it before and I'll say it again; for me, lifting and sportsbikes don't mix. Think I might need to replace the Thundercat with a cruiser... Much easier riding position on the back.

What are you doing to help recover it? Is there any reactive things you can do, or is it just wait till time mends all?

Taking Codein, Paracetamol and having the mrs massage the area with ibuprofen gel.

Other than that, just making sure to keep alternating between sitting, standing and lying down. Incredibly painful right at this moment, because I've just got out of bed and it's locked up in that position it's been in all night lol ><

Sucks about the back, man. What happened? Complacency and underestimated the weight?

Perhaps physical therapy or a massage therapist visit is in order?

    Rehab Lower and Short Run

    Squats:

    20xbar
    8x60(132)
    10x60(132)
    10x60(132) to a box

    Bulgarian Split Squats:

    8xBW
    8x10kg DB per hand
    8x10kg DB per hand

    DB Suitcase Deads:

    10x20kg per hand
    2x30kg per hand NOPE

    Leg Press:

    12x2pps
    12x2pps
    20x2pps

    Then HOME for a LIMP:

    2 miles in 24mins 53secs Holy shit...

    ----------
    Summary:

First day back. My back still isn't 100%, but I'm mobile, which I wasn't for the first few days lol.

    Tested things out today.

Squats with 1pps were tough and I was sweating like a bitch. Couldn't get very low before the back started feeling tight. Right knee was wobbling all over the shop. Used a low box for the last set and felt much more comfortable.

Bulgarian split squats were also tough but surprisingly my right knee held up and I managed to get plenty done. Legs were burning afterwards.

Tried out the back with some very light DB deads. 20kg per hand was easy. 30kg per hand was almost impossible.

My back has a long way to go yet before I'm ready to start squatting/DLing as I was. I reckon another few weeks of light rehab work before I up the weights.

Leg Press, on the other hand, was a piece of piss. Very easy. So leg strength is holding up okay, thankfully.

The two mile run was more of an extended limp, as at that point my back was totally fatigued and I was struggling to hold myself upright.

ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN FOR THE WELFARE OF MY BACK:

    - I've sold my old mattress with its uncomfortable springs and now have a nice memory-foam one.

    - I've put my Alfa Romeo GT up for sale, as its sporty bucket seats are very firm and always cause my lower back to ache.

    - I've traded my 600cc sportsbike in for a 1300cc V-Twin Cruiser. I'm hoping the less hunched over, more upright posture will make riding a safer affair for my back. Plus, I've always been hankering after a big ole rumbling v-twin... Take deliver of it next friday.

I'm hoping that all these changes will make a difference and stop my back from giving up on me so dramatically again in future.

I want the hell out of a 83 Honda chopper right now. Anyway - Hope the recovery goes swimmingly. Take it easy, mate. No need to extend the duration of an injury.

    ME Upper and Short Run

    Bench:

    20xbar
    4x60(132)
    2x70(154)
    1x90(198)
    1x100(220)
    0x110(242)

    JM Presses:

    6x60(132)
    6x60(132)

    DB Floor Press:

    10x20(44)
    10x25(55)

    Kroc Rows (Reps R/L):

    10/10x20s(44s)
    10/10x20s(44s)
    15/16x15s(33s)

    Pullups:

    5, 5, 5

    Then HOME for a RUN

    3 miles in 34mins 04secs

    ----------
    Summary:

Better than yesterday. That 110kg fail on the bench was due to not being able to get tight. Not too bummed about it as 110 is only a fraction off my PR anyway.

Kept all the DB work lighter than originally intended, as I'm just paranoid moving them around with my back. Floor Press with DBs is a really good movement, it was just setting up that was awkward. I have an idea that might let me use heavier DBs next time though.

Yesterday's run sucked, so went out again today to make up for it. Still not stellar, but better.

In diet news, the cut is going well. Slowly dropping weight. Lost maybe 4lbs now. Initial bloat has gone, leaving me feeling and looking leaner and more sprightly. Gonna continue taking it slow n steady so as to maintain muscle mass and strength.

Back felt alright, Bri, not too bad. Still feels weak as anything and begins to ache as the day goes on, so think a few more weeks of light weights will help.

    British Pipe Smoking Championships!

Was the British Pipe Smoking Championships today. A good day was had by all!

I competed and came a respectable midtable, winning myself some goodies.

Here's some photos for your delectation!

Myself having a quick smoke of my new Meershaum mini-Calabash.

Good friend and fellow pipe-smoker from the Nottingham Club.

Another good friend from the Nottingham Club (and MC for the event itself).

Gentleman modelling the dress of the Birmingham Pipe Club.

My haul for the day! The mini-Calabash I bought as a treat for myself (always wanted a Calabash), the Peterson Aran was given to all competitors and the Martin I won for placing reasonably well in the rankings.

All in all, a very good (and very British!) afternoon!

Rigged up a system that lets me use slightly heavier DBs for floor press, happy with that. Could prove a useful movement.
