The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    ----------
    Summary:

A tough day, but a good day.

Speed bench went well, as did dead benching, but after that set of dead bench at 75kg+minis I had NOTHING left in my arms.

    Rows were good, though.

70kg on Speed Bench feels a lot slower to me than 65kg, yet I filmed it and think it still looks reasonably quick. What do you think?

Run went very well, though the sun went down while I was on the run back, so was spending half my time jumping into the bushes alongside the country lane, dodging oncoming cars, haha!

    ----------
    Summary:

A poor day, tbh. Was meant to go in yesterday but felt absolutely drained of energy after a few bad nights' sleep. So went in today instead.

Felt better, energy-wise, but had no strength, plus there were a plethora of other issues.

My bad knee was hurting me on back squats. Was having trouble getting bar positioning right - on that 308lb squat, the bar was too high, making me slow on the way up. I'll upload vid later and you'll see. Bearing in mind that it's supposedly 60lb below my max, it felt heavy and looked slow.

Zerchers, for some weird reason, didn't click tonight. The bar just kept rolling forwards onto my forearms, don't know why.

Just wasn't a good night. Whatever, it's training in the bag. Onwards and upwards to better things, lol.

    3x95(209)

    CGBP:

    6x80(176)
    12x60(132)
    15x40(88)

    Pullups:

    5, 5, 5, 5, 5

    Barbell Rows:

    10x80(176)
    6x100(220)
    4x110(242)
    Underhand

    15/15x20(44)
    12/10x20(44)
    10/9x20(44)

    ----------
    Summary:

A better training session last night. Was surprised with myself on the bench; strength seemed to be there. Despite being low on ebergy. 95kg was moving for multiple reps in multiple sets.

    Very happy with that.

Seemed to flag throughout the rest of the session, though, and by the time I got to rows/pulldowns I had little left.

Having today off and using it as a refeed day ready for ME Lower tomorrow, follow by a long run on Sunday.

    ----------
    Summary:

Another injury-free deadlift session. Looking to make a habit of that, hopefully.

Strength is there on the Deadlifts - if you put 400lbs in front of me today, I could have lifted it, I'm sure. It's just the confidence that's not there atm; every rep I'm waiting for that 'pop' that's going to put me to the floor.

No-lockout squats (staying in the bottom two-thirds of the movement all the time) and barbell lunges were gruelling. No other words comes close to describing them.

    Summary:

Gym closes half day on Sundays. Got in late, with half hour left, so got the important stuff done.

Then went home, had a big dinner to carb up, then went out that evening for a long run. Went well, though calves kept trying to cramp up on me during the last coupla miles.

    Next week... half marathon distance.
