    Summary:

    There was a gaggle of teenage lads on the dip station using assistance. They moved onto the press machine next to it as I came along. Bodyweight dips. Weighted dips. Heavier weighted dips.

    As I walked away, I overheard one of them saying to the others, 'he's on 'roids, that one.'

    Made my day, lol.

    Wow those dips are HUGE man!! Massive props on that. The PR's just keep flowing Gazzy, loving the work of late!

    lol and you've gotta love when someone says that! Hasn't happened to me yet but I can imagine that you felt quite chuffed that they thought you'd be on roid's to be as strong as you, mint!

    lol! Thanks OR. The lower reps for heavier weight on the bench is really working for me. When I met up with Kiff, I barely managed a 90kg (200lb) bench 1RM. Gimme two weeks and I'll be doing that for reps. 225 here we come, at last.

    I think another big help is having my girlfriend spot for me. Last rep of last set yesterday;

    *lower weight to chest. Bar stays put.*
    Me: "Erm, I think I'm done."
    Emma: "Well I'm not moving it."
    Me: *gargantuan effort, manage to heave the bar up, lock it out and rack it.*
    Emma: "There ya go, you were strong enough - just being lazy."
    Me: "......"

    Thanks Coke! I'm not particularly big or anything, but I seem to be the only person who has a set routine that includes decent lifts. Come in on a weeknight and you'll find 1-15 guys just standing in front of the mirror curling. Must be a shock for people to see actual weight being moved for a change.

    Haha! It did feel good mate, yeah. To be fair, you probably train in a better gym than me, so your titanic strength doesn't stand out as much as my mediocre strength does here. Big fish in very little pond lol.

    Summary:

    Unsure what's happening here. My 6RM is back to my very best that it was pre-cut, beating last week's. But my max strength has dropped. I managed 352 (160kg) for 1 rep two weeks ago, but haven't been able to budge it since. So been puzzling over this.

    My squat and bench have been moving, but my deadlift's pretty much stalling. Does the body work like this? Does it give with one hand and take away with the other?

    I've got three options really, that I can see:

    1) Continue as I am and hope that my DL comes unstuck of its own accord.

    2) Add more food. Been aiming for 4000kcals, but the last few days have been a bit inconsistent as I've been here, there and everywhere. Perhaps that's had an affect.

    3) Deload. I've not had a deload in over two months. However, my squat and, in particular, my bench are still moving. So I'm loath to do this unless it's vital.

    What're your suggestions guys?

    What I've found to work best is, keep working on the 6 reppers. Then when you want to test your 1RM, give yourself a few sessions to break them in.

    If you are after size then yes for sure.

    You are doing better than most guys at my gym, much better so DO NOT worry about missing a weight...who cares? In 2 years you will be missing 550lb then 585 and will hardly remember 350.

    This couldn't be more true, when doing 5/3/1 I went through this and it frustrated me for quite awhile. Don't worry sweat the small things Gazzy, as said before in the near future the 350 won't even be a faint memory. Keep after it man

    Yes, I have experieced this first hand. IMO, that's why my geared deadlift only increased 20lbs in a year when my squat went from 875-1030 and my bench went from 525-640 in the same year. It wasn't the gear because I was using the same stuff except the squat suit. It's just that my squat and bench were doing so well that something had to suffer and that was my deadlift.

    Now, I am more focused on my pull so it's finally on the rise (well, it was until I got hurt) and my bench has been moving, but now my squat has suffered some. But i'm ok with that because I have a goal right now to pull over 700.

    This is also a very true statement and it sucks, lol. Like OR said it's very frustrating but it happens. That's why i'm not a fan of doing reps like that all the time. When I get back into the gym and start training hard again, i'm going to focus on 5-3-2-1 reps. Of course i'll cycle them around.
