The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

That's right man reps an 1RM are way different beasts. I agree with above statements. Work on reps if u want size then after that focus on 1RM for a few weeks to refine it.

It wasn't the gear because I was using the same stuff except the squat suit. It's just that my squat and bench were doing so well that something had to suffer and that was my deadlift.

Now, I am more focused on my pull so it's finally on the rise (well, it was until I got hurt) and my bench has been moving, but now my squat has suffered some. But i'm ok with that because I have a goal right now to pull over 700.

This is also a very true statement and it sucks, lol. Like OR said it's very frustrating but it happens. That's why i'm not a fan of doing reps like that all the time. When I get back into the gym and start training hard again, i'm going to focus on 5-3-2-1 reps. Of course i'll cycle them around.
Good, glad I'm not alone on this then. So I can expect other lifts to suffer some when others are rising? I'll be more prepared for it in future.

    Cheers Hayden!

I think that's it settled then - I'll just focus on upping my 6RM for now to build some muscle, then I'll switch to bringing 1RMs into it a few weeks before my comp.

Thanks for the support and encouragement everyone - it's amazing how down you can feel just about missing a lift. Especially one you have managed before. But like you all say, in six month/a year I'll be lifting 400+ and in another year after that 500+. In which case I can look back and laugh at my 350 woes now, haha!

That's not a bad idea. Because it will probably take a few weeks to get use to the heavy weight. Take the time building up to that 1RM.

I can't recall if you are still strong on your diet or if you have switched it up to an increased caloric intake?

If you are still dieting then you may just be fatiguing earlier due to the extended caloric deficit. Your endurance just may not be up to par, so just keep hitting the few sets that you do hard and let the rest fall in place.

    Thanks all!

Think I'll work hard at my 6 reppers for the next few weeks, then start working towards !RM in the month coming up to the Competition.

Aiming for 4000kcals a day now, which is a big number, but it's all good, clean food; gone are the burgers, pizzas and take-aways of my previous bulk.

    Day Eighty Two

    Chins:

    10
    10
    10 PR

    DB Rows:

    6x33 (15kg)
    6x60 (27.5kg)
    6x77 (35kg)
    6x100 (45kg)

    Standing Press:

    6x45 (20kg)
    6x66 (30kg)
    6x88 (40kg)
    3x110 (50kg)
    2x125 (57.5kg) PR
    4x120 (55kg)

DE Bench: One sec pause on chest.

    10x45 (20kg)
    10x120 (55kg)
    10x120
    10x120

    --------------
    Summary:

Happy with my three sets of ten chins. Now to drop them back down to six and add weight.

Didn't do clusters on the DB Rows, as after I had finished the 6 with 100lbs, I went to move the dumbbell and ended up pulling my back slightly. Had to sit and stretch it out for a good ten mins before I could do anything. Still tight and sore now.

Standing Press was tough. I was dehydrated by that point - I'd tried using Lucozade today instead of water and ended up getting tired even QUICKER! Normally I chug down two or three bottles of water during a session, so I think having just one bottle of Lucozade was a killer. Next time I'll be in better nick and do more reps with that weight on OHP.

By the time DE bench came round, I was shattered. Wanted to do a fourth set, but didn't have it in me.

Just flicked back through my journal.... gone back as far as forty workouts ago and still not found when I deloaded last.

Deloading for one week as of now. All these PRs are taking their toll on me and I don't want to risk a spate of injuries.

Yeah, once the rows start getting heavy they get really tough.

The 45kg DBs are the heaviest they have in my gym, so once they start feeling too easy I'm gonna have to start barbell rowing, I think!

Cheers bud! I'm happy with the chins. Will be adding 10kg to them next time.

Day Eighty Three - First Day of Third Deload

    Bench:

    15x45 (20kg)
    15x88 (40kg)
    15x110 (50kg)
    15x110
    15x110

    Dips:

    15xBW
    15xBW
    15xBW

    Curlz:

    15x29 (12.5kg)

    10 Mins HIIT

    --------------
    Summary:

I remember before I started HCT12, I was working out on a bench in my basement. I remember trying 50kg for 5 reps and burying myself, having to roll it down my body.

Today on my deload week I grabbed 50kg and pumped out 15 reps as though it weighed nothing. Three times. It just boggles the mind when you think how much you can change your body in only six months...

Another change I've noticed is that I've gained 20lbs since the last deload. Cranking out 15 BW dips was a REAL effort, haha!

I'm hoping that this deload week will give my CNS a good rest, enabling me to start lifting heavy again after. I think the big 1RMs I've been attempting lately have burned it out.
