The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Seems like you have the meet well planned out already, smart move to plan ahead. Your goal numbers are going to keep you pushing hard every session no doubt. Keep it up Gazz.

Thanks Hayden - I hope they are. I think my logic is sound and if I keep eating and training sensibly then I should reach them.

Thanks OR. It's hard to hold yourself back when you're injured, but I know it'll pay dividends.

Thanks Nick, I hope so! Was just looking at April's British Champ results from earlier this year - if I reach those goals it'll put me just at the bottom of my weight class (82.5kg). That's all I'm aiming for - I'm not expecting to beat anyone on my first go, just turn up, compete and go home proud.

Right - according to the rules I've been reading up on the BPO (British Powerlifting Org) site, I need to wear a single-ply suit. I haven't a clue wear to start.

Anyone know good sites to have a look on? Cheers.

    Day Eighty Eight

    Stretching x lots

    Chins:

    6xBW+11 (5kg)
    6xBW+11
    6xBW+11

    Rows:

    6x45 (20kg)
    6x55 (25kg)
    6x66 (30kg x2x2x2

    Standing Press:

    6x45 (20kg)
    6x66 (30kg)
    6x88 (40kg)
    6x110 (50kg)

    Speed Bench:

    3x132 (60kg)
    3x132
    3x132
    3x132
    3x132

    Leg Raises:

    6, 6, 6, 6

    Stretching x lots

    Summary:

Can tell I've not done any of these for a few weeks - they all felt very tough. Started to add weight to the chins now. Will add reps until I'm doing +5kg for 3 sets of 10. Then up to 10kg (20lbs).

Standing Press was really tough. Will keep adding 2.5kg (5lbs) every session. Speed bench was fun.

Rows I used less weight and focused on form.

All in all it was a good accessory day, I'm happy.

Also - had some very good news earlier. I managed to get the job that I've been after. Took me nearly a month from start to finish - two interviews and a trial shift. But now I'm in with this company I think I've got a job for life as it's a company I really love.

Thanks Nick - it's working for Games Workshop. Everyone I know who works for them has done so for many years and have no intention of quitting anytime soon.

Also mate, you know your way around a lifting suit. What would you recommend for a good starter single-ply?

    Job sounds damn good!!

Do you mean a squat suit?

Single ply squat suits most use Titan.......best advice is not to buy it tight.

Get then best single ply suit you can buy in a bigger size, dont bother getting a begginer suit that you will only want to upgrade straight away its just to costly.

Learn the suit then tighten it up.......get used to it tight then tighten it some more.

Thanks HJ! Yeah, I could barely crack out a couple at bodyweight when i first started. My ultimate dream is to be able to crack out ten with a 20kg plate. Hopefully I'll be there before the end of the year if I keep progressing slowly but surely.

Thanks for all the advice, Nick! Is it different lifting in a suit, even single ply? Should I get it sooner rather than later to get used to using it?

Wow, they really put you through the paces before giving you the job. Congratulation and I hope you are as excited about it years from now.
First Kiff gets into strongman and starts training Westside. Now you are training for a powerlifting meet and buying a squat suit.
Sure is fun watching you guys progress and find your path with it all. Good luck to you.
