The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Day Ninety Seven

    Deadlifts:

    6x132 (60kg)
    6x176 (80kg)
    6x220 (100kg)
    6x265 (120kg)
    6x309 (140kg) x2x2x2

    Back Extensions:

    10x176 (80kg)
    10x176 (80kg)
    10x176 (80kg)
    10x176 (80kg)

    Single Legged Leg Press:

    6x233 (106kg)
    6x255 (115kg)
    6x270 (124kg) PR

    Calf Raise:

    10x155 (70kg)

    --------------
    Summary:

Enjoyed today's session. Really enjoyed it. Felt a bit worried at 120kg as it felt really heavy, but then 140kg didn't feel any heavier at all. Glad I got the clusters out too.

Back extension felt good. I really feel it target the lower back and I think it'll help me stay more upright on the squat.

Leg press was good, glad to make a PR.

Calf raise was only one set but still felt it, really really slow on the way down and held it a few secs at the bottom.

Protein shake ordered tonight. Gonna go back to whey isolate. Been using the Sci-MX lately, but it's expensive and you need to use massive scoops, eating through a 10lb tub in absolutely no time flat.

The isolate I used to use, though it didn't have the BCAAs in it, didn't have any carns in it, was pure protein and lasted ages, letting me chuck shakes morning noon and night. I really wanna up the protein to about 200+ grams a day, as I feel much better with more protein inside me.

Deadlift session looks good Gazzy, 400+ doesn't seem too far off.

I'm kind of partial to the Strawberry Nitrean, I'd give it a shot if I were you, it's an excellent mix-up from the usual chocolate/vanilla.

Cheers Hayden! Yeah, I always felt a lot stronger when I was getting in a good solid amount of protein in.

Yeah, I've been looking at the Nitrean. Only problem is it's VERY expensive compared to most other brands of protein. About twice the price, in fact. Forty two pounds for 2kg, whereas my normal whey isolate I get is the same price for 5kg.

I have no doubts that Nitrean is a superior mix and that it'd help me, but with moving house and such soon I've gotta count the pennies. Once I'm settle in the new place I'll give Nitrean a whirl. But at the rate I like to have my shakes (3 a day) 2kg would disappear pretty sharpish.

Thanks Nick! Nah, the back extension's not that big, it's on a machine, feels easy as anything. If I was GMing it I'm sure it'd feel a crapton heavier lol!

    10x132 (60kg)
    10x132 (60kg)
    6x220 (100kg)

    --------------
    Summary:

This week has been awful training-wise and I have no excuses. Been away for a coupla days, working late, had to go pick up a new car and a new motorbike. All of which has eaten into training time.

As such I felt shit today, with no strength. Did what I could, a bit of a mish-mash, but I wasn't impressed, particularly with my chins.

Yet I'm ecstatic. You know why?

After the gym sesh I was feeling awful, real low, wondering why I even bother training. On the way up to my bike, I passed a building I always pass. This time I noticed that it said there was a gym in there....

I walked inside, down some dark stairs into the basement. Hear the clang of steel, grunts, the smell of sweat and chalk. I see not one, but two squat racks and a proper plate-loaded leg press....

Manager comes up to me - introduces himself. "My name's Ray; I'm an ex-regional powerlifter...'Any help you need, I'm here."

Cancelled my shitty commercial gym contract. Starting at new gym tomorrow.

Even though I've had a shit week, I'm happy. My protein's finally arrived, 10lbs of it. And I've found a new gym.

This next coupla weeks will see mountains of goal-crushing, rip-snorting PRs in this log.

    Guaranteed.

Thanks Coke! Gonna be great to be out of the crappy commercial gym. It's just fall of people quarter-squatting, curling and generally admiring themselves in the mirror whilst talking on the phone.
