The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

There is no replacement for determination and self motivation, but having 20+ 300LBS blokes shouting out you comes damn close.

    Day Ninety Nine

    Bench:

    10x45 (20kg)
    6x88 (40kg)
    6x132 (60kg)
    3x176 (80kg)
    3x187 (85kg)
    3x187 (85kg)
    3x187 (85kg)

    DB Bench: (Weight per DB)

    10x22 (10kg)
    10x33 (15kg)
    10x45 (20kg)

    Dips:

    6xBW
    6xBW
    6xBW

    EZ Bar Curlz:

    10x66 (30kg)
    8x77 (35kg)

    Summary:

First day at new gym. What a change! Proper hardcore gym - one changing room, one shower, one toilet. Loadsa benches, barbells and dumbbells, no two even the same lol. But so much room, so much easier to get done what you need. And the guys are all in there working hard, more than willing to spot and help out.

Dropped the BB bench slightly, as I've not been training/eating enough lately. Felt okay, but very glad for the spot.

On the advice of someone there I did some DB Bench after too. Never tried it before. Took some getting used to, keeping them balanced. Even though they were light weights I could REALLY feel them targetting my chest, better even than the BB Bench does. Pecs still sore today.

On another note, my Squat suit, new leather belt and deadlifting slippers have all arrived from Pullum sports. Only ordered them on monday! Very happy with the service!

Also have 5kg of protein which arrived the other day. Making sure to up my protein to about 250g+ a day now. Really wanna start building these muscles up.

Thanks Coke! I'm hoping everything's coming together now. Now I'm beginning to settle back into a routine of gym 3x a week the results will come thick and fast, or that's the plan.

    Day One Hundred

    Deadlifts:

    6x132 (60kg)
    6x176 (80kg)
    6x220 (100kg)
    6x265 (120kg)
    6x320 (145kg)
    2x320 (145kg)
    2x320 (145kg)

    Calf Raise:

    6x88 (40kg)
    6x154 (70kg)
    6x154 (70kg)
    6x154 (70kg)

    Front Squats:

    6x45 (20kg)
    6x88 (40kg)
    6x6x132 (60kg)

    Leg Press:

    10x265 (120kg)
    10x265 (120kg)

    Summary:

Happy with today. Another day of trying things out in the new gym. Deads were good, couldn't make the last cluster but it didn't bother me. Arms were still sore from yesterday, so really didn't want to hurt myself anyway.

Front squats were just an experiment as someone had mentioned them to me the other day. Definitely takes the back out of the equation. Only problem was I found it tough keeping the bar in place. Is there a knack?

Leg press also was an experiment as I'd never used a plate-loaded machine before. It allows much more range of movement and it seemed a lot more natural, less stress on the knees. Looking forward to loading up the weight on that!

Came to my attention tonight that my main weak link is my legs. Noticed as I was deadlifting that my legs don't do much till the end, with my back taking most of the strain. Same thing happens in the squat - my back takes a lot of the load.

Gonna really focus on the leg work the next few weeks. Get m big and strong. Roar.

Front squats just take some practice, you may want to check out some vids of Powercleans and what how they hold the bar. Nice work on the deads, too

Keeping the bar in place while doing front squats in a common plight, will be good to see you get that squared away. Glad you are liking the leg press, not a bad movement by any means.

    Day One Hundred and One

    Chins:

    6xBW
    6xBW
    6xBW

    BB Rows:

    6x110 (50kg)
    6x110 (50kg)
    6x110 (50kg)

    Standing Press:

    6x45 (20kg)
    6x66 (30kg)
    6x88 (40kg)
    3x110 (50kg)
    1x132 (60kg) PR

    Incline abs with 15kg:

    10
    10
    10
    10

    Summary:

Forgot dip belt so couldn't do weighted chins.

Rows felt good, but back was still tender from deads so didn't wanna push the weight.

Happy with Press. Been wanting 60kg for a while. Will hopefully get it for multiple reps next week.

Tried squat suit on last night, but it's too small. Couldn't get it completely over my quads. Need to send it back and replace it with a slightly larger size.

Good stuff man. I always love the feeling of going from numerous small plates to one big plate on each side of the bar,

    Top one buddy!
I'm not a great squatter but I'd experiment with a clean grip. Feels much better for me.
