Chafing SUCKS. I walk a mile from the train to work everyday and in the Summer it's absolutely the WORST. I've heard that Bodyglide is awesome stuff from some runners. I know they use it on their nipples as well to keep the chafing of the shirt down while running. Another useless piece of info I have stored in my brain somewhere.

Big squat PR after a walk like that! Nice job Gaz!

Good job on the squats! Hope you get the chaffing issue fixed up in time.

Cutting down for the summer is definitely a good idea. Nothing wrong with looking good on the beach!

    Benching!

    Bench:

    6xbar
    6xbar
    6x40(88)
    6x60(132)
    6x70(154)
    6x80(176)

    Standing Press:

    6xbar
    6xbar
    6x40(88)
    6x50(110)

    Tri PD:

    10x20(44)
    10x40(88)
    10x50(110)
    10x60(132)

    Cable Curls:

    10x20(44)
    10x30(66)
    10x40(88)
    10x50(110)

    Lat PD:

    35x35(77)

    ----------
    Summary:

No earth-shattering PRs but it felt like a good, solid session anyway.

The 6x70 on the bench felt very tough, so adjusted my grip on the last set, bringing it in a bit narrower. The narrower setup felt much stronger, giving me a much tighter upper back and moved the pressing more onto my triceps whilst at the same time it helped tuck my elbows, letting me feel my lats more.

I think this is a stronger setup for me, so I'm going to use it after the deload for my ME stuff, see how it goes.

Standing Press was tiring after the benching. Arm sets were great, still pumped now even as I type this lol. Only had time for one quick Lat Pulldown set, so made it a biggy, lol.

I actually found out the same thing a while ago and now mostly use a thumbs from smooth grip. I think for raw lifters a very wide grip isnt necessarily beneficial.

Yeah, I hated having to do a vertical press movement after benching. They just impact each other too much. That's why I found it easier to prioritize horizontal pressing the first upper body day and vertical pressing the second.

This is what I'm beginning to think, too.

For me, standing press is only an accessory, so I don't mind not being able to give it 100%.

Hehe, I sat down, thought 'how many reps?' saw that the pin was set for 35kg and thought 'good enough number.'

I find the same with bench, narrower (but not super narrow) feels pretty strong raw! Solid work Gaz, love that high volume upper back work too

Solid upper session. I've found a narrower grip to be stronger for me also when benching.

    Semi-deload Deadlifts

    Deadlift:

    6x60(132)
    6x100(220)
6x140(308) - Back tweaked a little so shut it down here

    Barbell Rows:

    6x40(88)
    6x40(88)
    6x40(88)
    6x60(132)
    6x60(132)

    Sumo DL:

    6x60(132)
    6x60(132)
    6x100(220)

    ----------
    Summary:

Last deadlift session before the big walk. Was out on the motorbike quite a bit yesterday, so back was a little stiff this morning. Tweaked it a little on the set at 140kg, so shut it down there.

Did plenty of light rows, changed form a little which target my lats loads more; legs wider apart, torso much lower, grip wider. Felt good, much more 'snap' in the movement.

Did some Sumos after because the weight was already on the bar anyway. Glad I did as it pumped some blood through my back and I feel a lot better for it.

As of now I'm on a proper deload, with light weights and high reps to keep myself injury free.

Tomorrow I'm going on a ten mile walk at a place called Dovedale in Derbyshire. Been there many a time before and it's a reasonably challenging walk as you go up and down hills and follow the river. Gonna be a good test for the Bodyglide.

Hopefully you got some foam rolling for that back. Don't wanna see it fatigue during the walk.

Back stiff today, a combination of squats yesterday and lots of driving today.
