The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Overhead Day

    Standing Press:

    10xbar
    5x30(66)
    5x40(88)
    5x50(110)
    3x60(132)

    Close Grip Bench:

    10x40(88)
    10x40(88)
    5x60(132)
    5x60(132)

Overhead DB Tri Ext (using both arms):

    10x20lbs
    10x30lbs
    10x40lbs

    Preacher Curls:

    10x20(44)
    10x30(66)
    10x40(88)

    ----------
    Summary:

Interesting session, a lot of movements I don't normally do.

Was wondering on the CGBP - where do you guys grip the bar? I tried from the very inside of the rough and I tried on the smooth. Smooth hit the tris more, but was tough to keep a good grip and to keep it stable.

I tend to grip my CGBP with two inner fingers on the smooth an two outer fingers on the rough bit. I mix it up thought normally too.

Nice looking session though. Think those are good exercise choices for the OH Press Day

Thanks guys! As close to the smooth as possible whilst still allowing for full ROM seems to be the consensus then! I shall make sure to remember that next time.

    Squats Day

    Squats:

    10x40(88)
    5x60(132)
    5x80(176)
    5x100(220)
    5x115(253)
    3x130(286)
    1x145(319)

    GMs:

    10x60(132)
    10x60(132)

    BB Hip Thrusts:

    10x20(44)
    10x40(88)
    10x60(132)

    Situps:

    2x30

    Barbell Ab twists:

    2x10x35(77)

    Reverse Hyper:

    10xbar
    10x20(44)
    10x30(66)

    ----------
    Summary:

Enjoyed that session. Could probably have squeezed out another heavy single, but didn't want to. Lots of stress at home again, atm, plus not eating/sleeping as I should, so got the 145kg in the bag and left it at that.

Did the GMs just to mix things up, rather than SLDLs. Think next time I do them I'll lower the weight and use more ROM, as I was feeling it more in back than legs.

Hip Thrusts are still awkward. The benches are tall and I'm short, so getting into position can be problematic. Might start using an aerobic stpe, as it's shorter and won't fall over, but then it reduces the ROM.

Ab works is getting easier by the day - gonna start adding weight to my situps on a consistent basis as they're too easy at BW now.

Reverse hypers always feel great on the back. Unsure whether I'm using enough weight or not. Are they meant to be heavy or light? I feel that if I use too much weight then it kind of offsets the recuperative benefits of it. Am I being an idiot thinking that?

you're damn lucky to have a reverse hyper! Ive always been under the impression the reverse hyper is a lighter/higher rep movement being more recuperation orientated!

I like to do reverse hypers with moderate weight for about 12-15 reps.

Don't be hard on yourself, your not an idiot. You are asking questions about something your not sure of. It's better to be safe and do it right.

Cheers Jay! Yeah, very lucky with my gym - three racks, three benches, reverse hyper and a loada other stuff, all in a tiny little gym. Just need to convince them to get a GHR and it's me set for life, lol.

Cheers Nick! Believe it or not, I've not gotten any leaner doing all this cardio - cos I'm still eating loads.

I shall endeavour to get some pics up at some point, though. I may not be leaner but I'm certainly a lot (read: 20kgs) bigger than when I started.

Thanks Jay. Bench is a very slow mover for me. Then again, everything is atm, things seem to be stalling a little. I reckon it could be a food thing. Need more calories. When life's a little less hectic at home then I shall correct it. Till then, shall keep forging on as best I can.

    Deadlifts - Bad Day

    Deadlifts:

    10xbar
    10x60(132)
    5x100(220)
    1x120(264)
    5x137.5(302.5)
    2x155(341)

    BB Rows:

    10x65(143)
    10x65(143)
    10x65(143)

    BB Hip Thrusts:

    10xbw
    10x40(88)
    10x60(132)
    10x80(176)

    Ab Twists:

    10x20(44)
    10x30(66)

    Situps 1x20

    Reverse Hyper:

    10xbar
    10xbar

    Followed by Stair Sprints, 15mins.

    ----------
    Summary:

Left wrist still hurting whenever I deadlift. Completely prevented me from lifting heavy today. It's not just when lifting - occassionally in everyday life it will all of a sudden click when I reach for something and give me a few moments of pain.

Something not right. Thinking I may have a stress fracture or somesuch injury that isn't healing.

Soon as I get the chance, I'm going to go get it x-rayed and see.

Other than the deadlifts, everything seemed to go alright, though I am feeling a little drained. Been up in the night quite a lot this week, plus not eating as I should.

Need to sort myself out, diet and rest-wise, tbh. Just a lot going off at home, so priorities are being shuffled and reshuffled.

My wife and I will be living on our own again within a few weeks, so having our own space will help a great deal when it comes to training, I'm sure.
