The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Deload

    Bar Dips
    BW x 15
    BW x 15
    BW x 15

    Lying Triceps Extension
    90 lbs x 15
    90 lbs x 15
    90 lbs x 15

    Barbell Curls
    90 lbs x 15
    90 lbs x 15
    90 lbs x 15

    Notes:
Dang those final few reps can hurt. The volume and the pump was crazy. I can see how the bodybuilder types would get addicted to doing this. But to be perfectly honest, it feels kind of like a day off. Oh wait...it's a deload, so it is a day off -

Haha, volume = great for deloads for me. I end up spending more time in the garage doing deloads than usual days it seems.

Nice stuff there. How many bodyweight dips do you think you could do? I got 24 the other night after doing weighted dips. Like to think I could give 30 a go if I was fresh.

I'm not sure, but I'd guesstimate around 25 to 30.

Thanks for all the support guys. I know deloads are boring to read about, but I am actually excited about some of these deload workouts. I look back on my training and certain things stand out to me. Like the time my shoulder press was stalled at 135 lbs for 5 reps. I thought it was a pretty decent strength level back then. Now I can press that same amount of weight for a rediculous amount of reps. Or looking back and at only being able to do 5 bodyweight dips, and now I crank out 3 sets of 15 without breaking a sweat. All those deload weights used to be hard, and now they are being crushed. So, even though it was a boring deload, it was really exciting to lay in bed last night and think about all the progress that I've made over the years. Not earth-shatterning numbers, but good consistant progress.

Spent the day sitting in the bleachers (90+ degrees) watching jr. pee wee football. My kids' team won their first game (woohoo), so he's very excited. He continues to improve and have a fun time. He's getting through the line and taking aim on the ball carrier. Still not fast enough to actually get in on the tackle, but it's getting better. A lot of fun to watch the games.

That's cool, I'm looking forward to my kids actually playing games. Right now they pretty much just teach them how to play. I'm sure it's a cool feeling seeing your kids team win.

It's just fun to see the kids develop and have fun. It's just as much fun watching my older son play in the band or go to his Boy Scout court of honors and watch him recieve his awards. It's all about them having fun and developing a good work ethic. Makes you feel like you've been doing a good job raising them.

I have hopes that they will both find their desire to join me in the gym some day and lift some weights...

    Bench Press (3-2-2 tempo)
    115 lbs x 5
    130 lbs x 5
    175 lbs x 5

    205 lbs x 5
    205 lbs x 5
    205 lbs x 5
    205 lbs x 5
    205 lbs x 5
    205 lbs x 5

    Bar Dips
    B.W. x 10
    +15 lbs x 10
    +30 lbs x 10
    +45 lbs x 10

    Barbell Rows
    125 lbs x 10
    135 lbs x 10
    185 lbs x 10
    215 lbs x 10

    Sled Pulls
    125 lbs x 2 laps
    170 lbs x 2 laps
    215 lbs x 2 laps
    260 lbs x 2 laps

    Notes:
I stayed very strict and used slow reps for the bench press today. I took a 2 second pause on the chest before pressing it. The shoulder feels great so I'll stick with this setup for now. Sled pulls were a great finisher; 80 foot laps.
