Off Road your squatting is awesome.

    Fact.

I mentioned 20 rep squats to a few guys in my gym and one of the former BB's piped up that he used to do 30 reppers ATG once a month. So now there is a challenge to see who can 30 rep the largest % of their Bodyweight! Oh dear.

30 rep squats, are you insane, you'll pass out...just kidding. I've never tried them, but I know some of Dr Ken's crew used to do 50 reppers. Can't wait to hear about you 30 reppers, I bet you see visions...

nice session, you could try adding in some variety to the workouts. I've added some bands to squatting and a few other movements and it's helped with the blahness.

Power cleans and hanging cleans are fun, but I guess this is all lower body stuff. Chest day is always so boring for me too.

Not a bad 'blah' session though mate! Nice high volume work.

That was an intense post describing your breathing on 20 rep squats, very motivating!

Things look good lately, you'll work through the 'blah' days and things will get better.

I had a break not too long ago, I think I just need to make some little changes.

If it wasn't for chasing a big bench, I probably wouldn't even bother training chest outside of bar dips.

I agree, that really is an endurance battle that's bound to take your mind someplace strange and funky. I hope Kiff has a puke bucket on hand when he tries those.

So I sat down and thought about having the "blahs" and what could be the causes and treatments for it. I was supposed to workout on Friday, but decided to put it off until Saturday. Then Saturday rolled around and I decided to put it off until Sunday. Sunday rolled around and I FORCED myself to get out to the garage and lift!

That's when I realized that my motivation was low and I didn't have that strong desire to smash the weights. So yesterday I sat down and tried to come up with reasons and solutions. The reasons for having the "blahs" is hard to figure out though. I think there are personal stuff going on that take my mind away from lifting, but generally my lifting is an escape, so that's probably not the reason. After much thought, I decided that it was more to do with it being Winter and having less activity in general. Fishing and wheeling season are over, so I'm not getting out of the house as much. As a consequance, my weight is rising and I'm feeling lazy.

So the solution is an easy one, limit the workouts and find other things to do to stay active. Also, get the fat down a bit so I feel lighter and more energized. So, I'm going to go back to the traditional 4 day program, one day for each of the big lifts just like in the 5/3/1 manual. Also, I will only do ONE accessory lift each session. They will be paired like this; Press/Chinups...Deadlift/Situps...Bench/Rows...Squats/Legcurls. The abreviation will ollow me to go in and focus on what's important and not have to stress over anything else.

The new schedule will give me more time at the end of the workout to play, just do whatever I want. That might be trying out some new exercises and just keep them light and fun. It might be going out for a walk on a nicer day or shooting the basketball with my kid. Just whatever I think might be fun that day and not worry about it being progressive. I just need to get out from in front of the TV and computer, get my fat butt moving more, and just have a little fun.

Yes, I will cut the bulk a little short. I was planning on bulking through Feburary, but I think it's time to at least slow it down. Maybe eat maintenance for the next month before I try to cut calories.

Been going through a lot of that myself. I'd like to make a suggestion:

For a few weeks (or however long) just go out there and SFW!
    The plan would be two-fold:
    1. pick a lift to focus
    2. work hard and keep it fun

Don't worry about reps, sets and weight. Just a thought

Why not take a week off? Get your priorities straight and come up with a solid plan. you dont have to lift for hours just ease into it. Works for me most of the time when I have the "blahs"

Off Road you know I will try and at least make you think each time you swap your stuff about, but this time you have hit the nail on the head! Your plan sounds good mate but I would say stick with it a few weeks, your bodies hormone levels will take a while to pick up, and at the end of it all the 'bleh' is just not enough happy gas in the brain mate ;-) it will come. Then you will, as you already have, see it is not the liftin but life in general. Stick with it old man :-)

    Nice session Bro.

I try to limit the times I go to the gym during the week to one day and it's a DE effort. I save the ME days to Saturday and Sunday when I don't have work and I get to go heavy. It really adds the spark back in and the rest helps so you're 100% rested for the weekend.
