The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Definitely! These are awesome also. You can really keep the SLDL's in your routine, but you can vary them by the stance, dead stops, continuous tension, etc.

I did Sumo SLDL's a lot last year and my hamstrings were damn strong and increased in size.

Just get a little creative with things!

Romanians are definitely one of my favourites. I dont do them a lot because i get incredibly sore from them. Im sure you will find a good way to hammer them.

Goodmornings and SLDL are great when done right. Based on your split and doing limited exercises I would pick gm or sldl for more bang for your buck. Personally I like to do hamstrings 2x a week (sq and dl days) because it is a muscle that needs to be improved.
Maybe I'll do GMs after deads and find a way to do GHRs after the squats.

I highly recommend doing SLDL's from the rack. It allows you to reset each rep and you really pull with your hamstrings from the bottom in this position. Just make sure your back is flat and ready to fire. You can also start with the bar a bit higher in the rack so you don't risk rounding your back.
I tried the SLDLs off the rack and really liked them. Something I will definitely use in the future.

I've done Stiffies so many different ways, and they DO help. I think I just need to use a little more variety of lifts.

Romanians are great too, but very close to SLDLs.

My feeling is that I need to try some different lifts rather than just sticking to the 'ol stand-bys year after year.

    Deadlift
    135 lbs x 3
    225 lbs x 3
    275 lbs x 3
    315 lbs x 3
    365 lbs x 1
    405 lbs x 1
    455 lbs x 1
    475 lbs x 1, 1, 1 (PR)

    Sit Ups
    BW x 10
    BW x 10
    BW x 10
    BW x 10
    BW x 10

    Notes:
It's not often I get to call out a PR. Pretty pleased hitting a deadlift PR after all the goofing around I've been doing lately with routine switching and all. And I hit it for three singles which was sweet. Man, were my lower abz cramping during those pulls...ouch.

Just one more workout before my big Off Road trip. I'll be testing out my Bench Press on Friday...

Not that ofter I get to say Nice PR OR!! 475 for 3 singles is smokin! That strength could come in handy if you need to lift your jeep out of the mud
I was gonna say the ab work after wasn't that impressive but the ab work during the pulls had to be brutal therefor the 5x10 after was some nice icing on the cake.

Keep on and enjoy that jeep.

Thanks cards, we will see, we will see.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm pretty happy with this round of max attempts. My strength is right there at my best and ready to improve. I may have been an idiot lately with the goal switching and the routine hopping, but in hind-sight, maybe it was exactly what I needed. I got out of my comfort zone and tried some different stuff and still got some good work in. But mostly I think I gave my mind a little break from just doing the same thing all the time. Now I'm pretty excited to get back from my trip and settle into a good 5/3/1 or 3/5/1 routine and make some more progress.

    Sick deadlifting...

So basically your deadlift increased and you didn't even train for it really. Same thing always happens to me.

Exactly. I really focussed on leg strength and that seemed to make a big difference since I miss lifts off the floor. Quads seem to be my weak link, so I am going to consider this when I plan my next routine. Perhaps trap bar deadlifts off of 2" or 4" blocks.

Ya, quads are the weak link for me too.

Trap bar deads sound like a great idea...I wish my gym had them.

that change of pace was necessary. At times you need just a few workouts of something different while other times you need weeks upon weeks of getting away from the norm.

I figured you would go back to something that you are comfortable with. Enjoy the weekend, hope it goes great.

    Bottom Position Bench
    135 lbs x 3
    185 lbs x 3
    205 lbs x 3
    225 lbs x 3
    245 lbs x 1
    275 lbs x 1
    285 lbs x 1 rep
    285 lbs x fail

    Bench Press
    150 lbs x 10
    150 lbs x 10
    150 lbs x 10
    150 lbs x 10
    150 lbs x 10

    1 Arm Db Row
    80 lbs x 10 (each side)
    80 lbs x 10 (each side)
    80 lbs x 10 (each side)
    80 lbs x 10 (each side)
    80 lbs x 10 (each side)

    Notes:
I wanted to get three singles with the 285, but I was only able to get one. Bench is down a bit but I am not stressed about it. The 1 arm dumbbell rows were brutal; 100 reps without much rest between them is one hell of a cardio workout. Packing for my trip, leaving on Sunday.
