The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Oh ya, the plan for the next couple of months...

I want to drop about 10 or 12 lbs in the next couple of months. I just feel fat and bloated and lazy. So my focus for the next couple of months will be to lose a little weight, maintain my strength on my squats and deads, and pump the shit out of my arms. I'm taking a page out of Dan John's book from when he dieted down. He was able to increase his arm measurements while dieting down because he's never focussed on them before. I am in the same boat, so I'll give it a try. It should make dieting more bearable since I will be trying to make progress in at least one little area. The biggest thing I hate about dieting is the months that you spend not making any progress. My plan is to use a very abreviated 5/3/1 for my squat day and deadlift day, but I will be doing an [easy-ish] 3x5, 3x3, 3x1 instead of the max reps. I will only include one assistance lift after the main lift; 1 arm db rows on deadlift day and sled drags on squat day. On the other two days I'll be doing the "Backside of Arm" routine from the latest article.

I love dieting. But, then again, I'm dieting on 3kcal right now.

Wish you luck. I think you'll be happy with the progress. Also, just because you're dieting doesn't mean you still can't progress in strength. I'm sure Rory or Tim could help you figure some sort of cycling approach to keep your strength up.

Looks like a good plan. cutting the processed foods out of my life about 80% of the time has made a huge change. My performance is drastically better, soreness is probably 50% of what it was..the little things are shoring up and I feel re-energized. It's amazing what getting some protein in will do..lol

I think I've just accepted that my arms will never get in balance with my shoulders..lol. I guess I can always hope, though!

Here are a few pics from my Jeep trip to the Hammers. It gives you a good idea of how big the rocks are there, remember, my tires are 38" tall. There's also a good picture of my flop - lol

Exmg has the same thread at IM http://www.intensemuscle.com/showthread.php?t=28442 if you rather go there. The IA thread is more active but most of his pointers are the same IIRC. btw, I am pretty sure you probably heard but Exmg has take over the board at IAs since Wes's passing last Sept. RIP.

Honestly OR, good call on taking it easy. The back is nothing to gamble with. If you don't listen to your back it can bite you in the ass.

Awesome pics OR, that looks like a lot of fun.

The dieting plans sound good. 10-15lbs should be very doable while you work your way up on the deads and squats again. Taking an easy approach on things will be a good way to go. Great to see you back full force

Ya, I'm still curious what killed IA. Pretty hush-hush stuff. But I really haven't participated on IA's forum since I found this place. I didn't like the way they made people prove themselves to post, it just killed that forum.

And ya, I always listen to my back because of the massive injury I had. It's probably the reason my deadlift is a shitty lift. I just won't pull it if it doesn't break off the floor easily.

Thanks HP, I definitely listen to my back, even if it means stopping short. There is always next week, but if I screw up my back I could be down for months.

Thanks Luna, the four wheeling is my way of getting my adrenaline flowing. It keeps me young and gets my head straight. After that trip I'm ready to be a responsible guy again. Sometimes you have to blow off a little steam.

I figure I will lose the weight the same way I did last time, just slow and steady. Last time I was able to stay progressive with the weights throughout the process. This time I will probably do the low/med/high carb rotation thing.

Thanks Gazzy. It's a lot of fun since I have the smallest Jeep in our group. Most of the other guys have full width axles, stretched wheelbase, and 40"+ tires. I just have to use driving skill to keep up with them.

The other Jeep has to drive to the side of me, hook up the winch to my cage, and flip me back over. I had to do the same for him because he flopped in the same place
