The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Update...

    Weight = 223.4 lbs
    Arms = no change

    So, it's been about three or four weeks with no real change in bodyweight and no change in the arm measurements. I think I reached the inevitable sticking point. Should I stress over the last 2 or 3 lbs? I don't think so. I think I will just maintain for another week and then start the slow bulking process. Just tired of measuring and weighing every week and I don't really want to restrict further for a couple of pounds.

    I understand what you are saying, but you will be doing yourself a big favor if you continued weighing in every couple of weeks and measuring key areas from time to time...this is a good habit to help stay in charge.

    Not sure I need to do anything drastic just to peel back a couple of pounds. I can probably just increase my conditioning work for a couple of weeks and hit it. Maybe that's what I'll do.

    Yes, you are right. I still plan on tracking my eaqting and weight as I go. Maybe I'll take measurements periodically too.

    Squats
    265 lbs x 8
    265 lbs x 8
    265 lbs x 8
    265 lbs x 8
    265 lbs x 18

    Romanian Deadlift
    250 lbs x 12
    250 lbs x 12

    Sit-ups
    Just a crap-load of them at bodyweight...

    Notes:
    The squats felt amazing today. I had absolutely no problem hitting depth and maintaining form throughout. At the end I was thinking 20 reps, but after 18 was getting pretty darn slow I thought I'd call it good for today and save some for next time. Romanians were an absolute BITCH after the squats, my lower back was soo tired. I didn't even count the situps, I just did sets until close-to-failure. The first set was around 20 and the last set was around 6. Good times, I enjoyed this one.

    I liked the story with your nephew. I hope you gave the guy some tips and set him straight! Not his fault he's been lied to.

    So what's the goal weight then? You seem to be progressing pretty steadily.

    The goal weight is 220 lbs, so just a couple of lbs to go. Shouldn't take more than a couple of more weeks if I increase the output a little.

    I do love my squats and the support I get from everybody here just makes me want to try harder. I literally think of all you guys as I get under the bar, and it's a huge motivation for me. I know I have a lot more room to grow with the squats, and between you guys and this excellent routine I know I'll imrove one workout at a time. Thanks everybody.

    It's been quite some time brotha, but I figured I'd pop in here while I have a chance. You're always up to something with your routines, and I like it!!! Good to see that the weight loss is still coming along too. Pretty soon, you'll be looking like the guy in the picture for the article "bodybuilding basics" at the top of the forum!

    Thanks man, but it won't last long. I just happened to have a free day at work, where I could sit in the office all day. Starting tomorrow, I'll be right back to having no time for the internet anymore.

    Very impressive Squat session! Seems like a smart move on the diet, you've been cutting for quite some time now so a break/maintenance phase would probably be quite beneficial.

    Off Road when was the last time you did a 20 rep squat set without a bunch of sets beforehand, and what weight can you do on this? I've been doing the hardgainer routine and man those 20 reppers are a beating, strangely though I don't dread them which I thought I would. The last 8 reps are the real killers, especially the last 3 I reckon

    Thanks JC, I think it's because I don't stress over bodyfat levels...as long as I don't get too unhealthy.

    Ya, I think I'll tough it out for two more weeks.

    I could tell you my PR for 20 rep squats (>350 lbs), but it wouldn't have a lot of bearing on what I can do now or what I will be able to do in the future. If you stay tuned to this journal, you'll probably see a 20 rep PR in the not too distant future. Gotta train them to break them.
