Just noticed this issue recently.
Normally I warm up just with a few mins running and plenty of back/leg stretching, as I tend to get my big lifts (squat/dl) out the way first.
Last session, however, nothing was free, so I pretty much had no choice but to do my dips first.
CRIKEY! The pain in my left elbow, unreal. Had to stop after just a coupla dips. Cue frantic arm swinging, elbow flexing, gnashing of teeth, wearing of sackcloth. I did some more, it still hurt like a boss, but got steadily better until I could perform all my sets with no pain.
Normally before I do dips, I'll have done DL, Bench and OHP, so my arms would be very warmed up, hence I normally have no pain at all whilst dipping. I honestly didn't realise how much warming up my elbows need before I can dip!
Anyway, long winded way of getting around to it - what kind of warm up exercises/stretching can I do for my elbow area in case I come across this situation again? Short of simply bending and unbending my arm, I cannot think of anything to warm that joint.
What do you suggest?
You could try some push ups and curls?
Hmm, pushups is interesting, spose I could add a few sets of push ups into the warm up, that might get the elbows going. Ta.
Cardio warm up on a rowing machine.
Light dips on an assistance machine.
