The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    CONTEST...WBB Bench Press Challenge...CONTEST

    WannaBeBig Bench Press Challenge

WannaBeBig.com and AtLarge Nutrition (www.atlargenutrition.com) are having a Bench Press Challenge in honor of the NFL combine. The contest will involve doing as many repetitions as possible in the flat barbell bench press with a total of 225 lbs (standard 45 lb bar and 4-45 lb plates).

To enter, simply video tape your attempt from an angle that shows the weight being used and at a vantage point that will allow the judges to accurately count the reps. Submit the video in the appropriate thread in the Bodybuilding Forum on WannaBeBig.com. All entries must be submitted by March 31st, 2011.

All reps need to touch the chest. To be counted, each repetition must get very close to full lockout. Complete locking of the elbows will NOT be required, but be warned that ½ and ¾ reps will be discounted. Final judgment for what is a full rep will be at the sole discretion of our judging panel. Rest pauses will be allowed, but not that exceed 4 seconds, and no more than 2 total.

    Prizes Sponsored by AtLarge Nutrition:
    1st Place = $300
    2nd Place = $200
    3rd Place = $100

The most I ever did with 225 was following a DE workout. Maybe something to try for everyone. It was only 17 reps if I remember correctly, but that is 3 more than any other time I ever attempted it. Guys this is a great idea for a contest, but 225 might be a bit much for most of our members. Maybe something like 275 for our pros, ie Vince, Travis, Rob L.... if they would want to do it. 225 for those who have been training for some time, and maybe 185 for the others? Obviously the prizes would be greatest in the highest category, but it could level the playing field a bit. Regardless, good luck to everyone.

Offroad, you mean a rest pause with the weight still in the lifters hand, correct? Not a re-rack restpause.

I don't think I have a chance at money mostly just doing this for fun. For a better number though you have a good point I guess I could do it on DE day.

Will any of the "pros" be competing in this? I'll definitely give this a try just for ****s but there's guys on here benching 800+ in gear and would make pretty much all of us look like little girls in a competition like this.

I agree that it would be better to have different divisions. I've never tried to lift 225 more than 5 reps so I am going to look like a girl if I post a video but I may try it anyways. I have no idea how many reps I could do (maybe 8?) but I've also never tried to lift a certain weight as many times as possible.

Is it best to go for it RIGHT after one warmup set? maybe two warmup sets?

Right now it is just going to be 225 and whoever does the most wins. Maybe some different challenges in the future. So far we got Thomas with 19.

To everyone talking about divisions and **** just lift the weight and have fun.... I'm not expecting to win anything I just did this for fun because.... Well, that's why I lift to have fun its my passion/hobby. If someone comes in here and blows me out of the water I'm not going to feel like a girl just more motivated to get a stronger bench.

So basically what I'm saying is SFW regardless of your strength, just have fun!

This is a fun challenge, I am looking forward to seeing who will be the first to break the 20-rep mark.

As I stated in my previous post, I've never attempted more than 5 reps for 225lbs because I've only gone to that weight for 5x5. Anyways, I was very pleased with my results. I was able to pull out 10 clean reps

On my next set (not shown in the video), I pressed 8 reps x 225lbs.

Thanks for the cool contest. It helped me attempt a new level... and I reached it!

I'm not sure why the YouTube video isn't showing... I wrapped the link between the YouTube tags so here is the link:
