Here is video of his axle press, 415 lbs x 5 clean each rep with a non-revolving axle (significantly more difficult).

wow, massive deadlift and massive clean/press

kind of a weird way of cleaning the weight to the shoulders. but then again its 415lbs and he handles it like its 135

somebody forgot to tell Zydrunas that is supposed to be a heavy frikken deadlift and not a warmup set.

It's a continental clean. Tom can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's used in events like this where the axle doesn't rotate because it puts less torque on the wrists and the momentum won't throw you backwards.

Yes, that is a continental clean. One of the competitors (Koklayev) is a world class olympic lifter and he also uses this technique because the power clean is not very effective with a non-revolving bar. Savickas has done power cleans in the past on the axle when the weight was 370 lbs but that was likely because it was light for him and he did not have to worry about conserving energy.

Yes, it is great for the USA to have such depth now - multiple WSM finalists and two Americans on the podium at the Arnold.
