The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Alot are shredded. But remember what you were saying about how you get injured more when your body fat is too low. Its even more so with a combat sport. Cushions the blows and allows you to eat more to fuel those grueling work outs.
As a side not, Alex.V. likes to point out that cardio is not the best way to drop body fat. This is more evidence to support that.

I get fatter as my cardio ramps up- can't afford to have a crap workout (or in the case of fighters, training sessions or bout) because you're trying to keep your calories carefully calibrated. Just eat and eat and if you gotta make weight, deplete like a motherfucker.

Seriously though man, congrats on the win.

Hmmm.... maybe we have different ideas ov what 'shredded' means, but in the UFC at least (only fighting i ever see) there are VERY few shredded guys (lightweights dont count). I can see the rest though... makes sense.

You know who are one seriously jacked lot...??? Gymnasts. Holy fuck. Never watched it before, and the girlfriend was watching it tonight... some collegiate National meet... shit the bed. If you get a body like that doing gymnastics then its a wonder every gym rat and bicept-jockey out there dont storm their local clubs. It seriously does not LOOK like a drug-tested sport. WOW.

They are jacked, but they're also pretty tiny:

The red-haired guy with the grey shirt, next to me, is Juri Chechi - "Lord of the Rings", 5 times world champion, gold medal in Atlanta, yadda-yadda.

Yeah, that basically what I do, just eat tons of normal food. Any time I tried doing something fancy with my diet my training sucked.

Thanks Alex. A lot of the credit should go to you and all the stuff you put out for Complete Human Performance. I learned some much, and it truly does cut through the bullshit that people try to sell you. I get asked all the time about anything fitness related, I basically just tell them the dumbed down version of your opinions. And then email some of the stuff you have posted.

MMA are never going to be a shredded as body builders. When you see fighters its just during the actual fight right? If so this when they are at their heaviest and most bloated. They have been stuffing themselves with carbs and water since the day before. Before my fight my coach was constantly telling me to drink water in the dressing room, even after pissing every 5 minutes.

Oh hell yeah they are. IMO gymnasts are the best athletes out there. The stuff they do is beyond impressive. If I could go back in time I would have the 3 year old me do gymnasts.

Yeah, when I was a kid, gymnasts were my inspiration for lifting weights. I wanted those biceps and wide lats. Had the pull up record at my elementary school and could do running front flips and land on my feet. My parents told me I would be too big to be a gymnast when I grew up, so I started drinking lots of coffee because my friend said it would stunt my growth. I grew to 6'3". Damn...might have been a basketball player if I didn't drink all that coffee.

We were just watching that shit and just could not get over the mass these guys all had. We were thinking NO WAY these guys are clean... but after watching for an hour or so, and near EVERY gymnast there had the same look it became more 'well, they cant ALL be juiced up... must be the sport itself.' And again... WOW.

I'm thinking gymnastics for the upper body mass and weightlifting for the lower. How to build a super human...

I think it's about dimensions. They weight like 130, and are always seen alone so there is nothing to give them scale. So they look huge, but next to a 200 lbs guy they would be more ripped but much smaller.
