The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Personal Record Thread!

Thought it'd be cool to have a thread where everyone can post their new PR's. New weight and new rep max PR's are all good to post!

    Recent PR's for me:

    Squat: 280lbs x 9.
    Dead Lift: 355lbs x 7
    Standing Overhead Press: 170lbsx 3

It's so motivating when you start hitting new PR's again! I was stale for almost 5 months due to injuries/bad programming.

MODS: If this threads a hit, we should sticky it.

I recently hit a 290x3 bench and followed it up with a 300x1. Then I hit a 360x3 squat and a 455x1 deadlift. All within the last 2 weeks.

I very recently hit a 200 lb strict standing press, 300 lb bench, 400 lb squat (easily), and a 450 lb deadlift (mad, wanted 500, it's now my focus).

Hit 280x5 in squats last night, very deep. That's a 70-80 lb improvement over my 5rm from August.

Pulled 345x5 last Tuesday. Not as clean as I'd like, but that's a 15lb improvement over my estimated 1RM from August.

    Nice work guys!

Offroad, I am chasing a 200lb press myself. For some reason I seem to excel at them (at least compared to my bench press). I think I should be able to hit it in a year or so.

There's not too much more of a testament of strength than being able to standing overhead press your body weight. I've yet to do it, but I am right at the cusp... I hit 170x3 at a BW of 177

Ageed...great test of strength. Bench can be assisted greatly by good form...its a more technical exercise. Not much you can do for a strict OHP to help aid the lift.

    Great thread idea...

Two weeks ago I tripled 435 on squats for my 3rd set (did 415, 425 the first two) which is a best. Then last week I did 3x6 @ 405 on sumo pulls, which is my best there. I am following HCT-12 for bench and got 260, 270, and 280 for my last set of 6's. At the end of this cycle, I want to get 500-500-350, which will probably be at the end of January.

Good job to everyone else on here- setting goals can really help you get somewhere!
Most people pray for a lighter load in life...ever thought of praying for a stronger back?

Goals as of 2/08/11 (current) goal:
    Squat: (505) 535, Deadlift: (475) 500, Bench: (325) 350 Total: 1305 (1385)
    BW: 225 as of 02/01/2011 Goal: 205 by May 1, 2011

20 reppers are fun in a hellish kind of way.

I did a little run at them. Started pretty light and easy. I think I got up to about 170x20. It wasn't really about it being heavy, just so exhausting and burning.

Great way to allow yourself to gorge on whatever food you want for the rest of the day.

Due to recent weight loss the only PR's I've been hitting lately are on bodyweight exercises. Last week I got 3x12 @ BW+22lbs for chins and 3x12 @ BW+66lbs for dips.

    Last week new PR:

    Power Clean 175lbs: 5x3

    New PR Today:

Dips @ BW: 30 consecutive reps.

I've been able to add 5 reps to my BW PR for the past 2 months now without even trying. I'm loving it.

If you hit 170 lbs x 3 then you should definitely be able to push out a single with 180-185 lbs.

    I agree. I am just surfing 5/3/1.

The formula estimating the 1 rep max has it at 185.

Parker, have you uploaded a video of your squat yet? I'd like to see your form considering your squat seems unusually high given your stats.

I think we should recreate this thread and make a video required if its a gym lift.

We could start a separate thread in the Members Media section for PR videos, but the way that I see this is as more of just a casual thread where people can post their various PR's.

This thread could be a great way to come up with some future contests / challenges for the forum.
