The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks Mark, that all makes sense mate. 120kg is my next target and I enjoyed that single with it... the bands definitely gave me a lot of confidence, especially through the bottom portion of the lift. Not much assistance from the bands at the top of the lift so that gives confidence too. I'm looking forward to using them for squats and deads too... chains will be the next consideration for purchase.

Loving the bands so far bud... my OCD will only allow me to buy the rest of the set that I've already got, but after that I will definitely want some longer bandsate so I'll have a look at those ones, cheers.

    MONDAY 30 DECEMBER

    Slam Man:

1 ◊ 4 minute Tabata - OMFG! Haven't done this in months! FKN HURT!!!

    Goblet Squat Hip Rotations:

    3 ◊ 10 figures of 8

    Deadlift ( 5/3/1 - C3, W2):

    5 @ 82.5kg
    5 @ 102.5kg
    3 @ 125kg
    3 @ 145kg - chalk - 1st rep felt heavy
    3 @ 165kg - belt on
    10 @ 187.5kg (412.5lbs) - blowing out of my arse!!

Note: lost my balance lowering the 6th rep of the last set. rep 10 stopped mid-thigh before finishing it... never moved down and I don't think I hitched it so I'm counting it!

This set gives a theoretical 1RM of 249.5kg... maybe if I'd done it without stopping for a breath!

Reasonably comfortable getting into notch 4 of my belt now... needed 2 guys to help me get into it first time (& more importantly, to get out of it afterwards) so the gut is going in the right direction!

    Deadlift:

F @ 230kg with reverse No.3 Small Blue Bands - moved an inch!
1 @ 230kg with reverse No.3 Small Blue Bands AND No.2 Super Mini Red Bands - with 5 second hold at top - next DL goal

Note: was going to do BORs and curls but was done after this!

    Haha brilliant!

Would love to try out some fat gripz! If I had some i'd probably use them for every exercise. (I know quite a lot of strongmen/powerlifters use them regularly to improve grip on regular bar deadlifts)

At least you were in the gym on New Years Eve! Hope you had a good new yeARS!

How was your New Year mate?

Love the Fat Gripz. The package they came in said to use them for all pressing moves but I haven't done too much of that TBH. The red ones are even fatter but too big for my hands!

    THURSDAY 2 JANUARY 2014

Low Bar Squats superset with Goblet Squat Hip Rotations:

    3 ◊ 20 @ 20kg & 3 ◊ 10 figures of 8

Note: knees don't feel right today!

    Low Bar Squats (5/3/1 - C3, W2):

    5 @ 65kg
    5 @ 80kg
    3 @ 97.5kg
    3 @ 112.5kg
    3 @ 130kg - 1st time I felt my wrists today
    6 @ 145kg - wrist supports and belt on

Note: my old knees really creaking today. knee wraps?

positioning under the bar for Low Bar Squats is finally getting easier and wrists not hurting today... progress!

last set gives a theoretical 1RM of 173.5kg (381.7lbs) but you can see from the last couple of videos that I'm quite unstable so I need to work on that.

Low Bar Squats (with Reverse No.3 Blue Small Bands):

    5 @ 180kg - bands doubled... too much assistance!
    1 @ 180kg - bands singled... couldn't feel the bands!
    1 @ 180kg - bands singled and shortened
    1 @ 180kg - ^^ & again but filmed

Note: got pinned on the 2nd rep of the 2nd set! didn't film the 1st rep so not sure how low I got but it felt like parallel.

Repositioned the bands to shorten them for the 3rd set... but forgot to film it! didn't feel too much (any) assistance on sets 3 & 4... nice confidence booster!

1st time I've had 180kg on my back since before I broke my foot over 3 years ago (and that was only half squats without a belt)... felt good!

Well I'm still playing with them but I've been using them reversed so that they help more the deeper into the lift you go... good for getting used to, or confidence with, a heavier weight than you've been working with (next goal perhaps? ). I haven't yet used them 'straight'... so that they add resistance instead of assistance the further you push/pull into a lift.
