I have a couple of questions concerning cardio.
OK, I have been cutting seriously for a couple of months. I am stuck right now and I want to do some bulking. My strength has gone up since I started getting serious about my diet and WO's, but I haven't seen the muscle gains since I am cutting.
I think that one of the main problems I have right now is that I do not have much LBM so I am going to up my cals 500 a week unitl I am at around 3000+ to build more muscle. I am 5'10" 160 right now, but still have a little stubborn fat on my gut and thighs.
Here's my question.
The way I understand it, if you do cardio 1st thing in the morning you are going to burn nothing but fat since your body has nothing else to burn. That is of course if it is not high intensity. I was wondering if a bulking diet, but doing cardio before I eat my 1st meal of the day will I gain muscle yet burn the fat via cardio?
30-45 minutes of light-moderate cardio on an empty stomach is not catabolic is it? Say 4 days a week?
Any help would be appreciated...please remeber that I haven't been doing serious weights for long so I have a lot of muscle growth coming my way.
light (aerobic) cardio is not particularly catabolic. It may up your metabolism for an hour or so but unlike intense cardio it won't up your metabolism for extended periods. This assumes that you are in acceptable cardiovascular shape to begin with.
As far as empty/full stomach, it doesn't matter much. Who cares if you 'burn' fat at 6:00am or you 'burn' it later in the day. If your calories in are less than your calories out, you'll burn fat regardless of what time of day you do it. I believe you should do your cardio/aerobics after you eat your first meal.
Now in pain, only working out the walking sticks.
To me the best way to drop fat weight is to do interval-based cardio, something like fartlek sprinting, hill training, whatever.
10-20 minutes of that 3x a week will do wonders for your body composition.
