Read all the books released so far. This should be decent, but I'm worried it'll distract RR from finishing the series. I have my doubts he will finish before he dies. Dude is getting old and not in good shape at all.

Best fantasy series I've ever read, bar none. Fuck Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc. This shit is like the Sopranos and Braveheart put together.

Braveheart and sopranos? I gotta check this series out. Maybe it can replace my canceled lights out which is the only show I watch(ed).

Have you read Wheel of Time?

BTW Harry Potter and LOTR are awesome, I have to disagree there. They are pretty accessible and don't have anywhere the depth that SOFAI has but I still really enjoy both series.

Never got into WOT, hated LOTR as a book trilogy (except for the ROTK, FOTR was an absolute bore).

I REALLY enjoyed the Dark Elf Trilogy (and the other Drizzt novels) if you've heard of that before. Not nearly as good plotwise as LOTR or SOFAI, but excellent, unmatched action and detail to action.

I really enjoyed Harry Potter up until the 7th book, then it let me down tremendously. Harry and co are just chillin out in the forest for like half the novel. I also didn't like the end....I wanted Harry to die. There was not enough loss of life for that final battle scene. Key characters should have lost their lives for me to take it seriously.

Have you read the Dark Tower series by King? Great series, but don't read past the final chapter of the 7th book if you do....total let down, although it's similar in plot line to a certain famous movie.

So I just realized I recognized Khal Drogo from that thread awhile back where everyone was freaking out about Jason Momoa playing Conan.

He's a far cry from Arnold, but assuming he was in similar shape during the shooting he's going to look pretty badass:

I've been watching the TV series. Had no idea it was a series of books. I may read em one day. But I don't get to read enough and have tonnes of other books to get through first.

I read the first 4 or so graphic novels from the Dark Elf Trilogy (haven't read the books though), I was really entertained and I absolutely love the Forgotten Realms Universe (Baldur's Gate FTMFW).

Haven't done Harry Potter yet, just the first novel. I enjoy that universe as well, I just haven't gotten around to other ones. I would also probably agree with your assessment, I really like when books/shows kill of main characters. It makes the world so much more believable.

My dad loved Dark Tower, also something I plan on reading.

I need to be unemployed for a year or so and just drink energy drinks and read all day...

The Dark Elf trilogy in the Drizzt series that goes back to Drizzt's homeland underground is easily one of the most badass trilogies I've read. Extremely cinematic and just plain nuts. Best three books out of the whole series, besides maayybbee the halfling's gem.

I just started reading Game of Thrones. There is a ton of hate out there for Martin though, apparently the first 3 books in the series were published quickly, but book 4 took 5 years and book 5 (comes out this summer) has taken 6. And he is focused on a bunch of other stuff and will probably die before he finishes. So I'm considering just stopping with this book and trying The Dark Tower or something. Already read all of WoT twice, some of them more. I won't say I'm glad Robert Jordan is dead but his death was the best thing for his series of books. Sanderson is finally moving the story along, Jordan was stuck.

    Nerds.

    TV show is cool.
Never shall innocent blood be shed, yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river. The Three shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeful striking hammer of God.

Lol it's satire, it's often times so well done that people don't realize The Onion isn't a real newspaper. That man surely exists though, somewhere.

Oh, I own a TV because I have a Netflix addiction, plus I just got a Blu-ray thingie (seeing Saruman on top of Orthanc wiggling his fingers in Blu-ray beats the DVD version of Fellowship of the Ring)

    eh wot?

oh right, yes I own a TV but I don't WATCH TV, at least not the way most people watch tv.

When Game of Thrones comes out on Blu-ray or DVD, I'll just buy the set.
