The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Hey bud, you look good going in to your meet. 440 sounds like your number to open with. You can make decent jumps once your in. And i like your RH idea on the decline. Got to try that. Best of luck at the meet.

Good! Last comp hit 225kg (495lbs) with whites, locked 235 but done for hitching. Would love to get near my pb but at least the 5PPS, 220kg (484lbs), an I will be satisfied with deads, higher is always better though lol

Thanks for checking in man an appreciate the feedback. Yeah was considering doing that, maybe 200kg (440lbs) to 220kg (484lbs) then a little more than 240kg (528lbs, current pb). Good plan?

Bench Shirt Practice Day - 3 rep day. No assistance really planned as tapering for meet.

    Bar * 15, * 15
    60kg (132lbs) * 8, * 8
    80kg (176lbs) * 3, * 3
    100kg (220lbs) * 1 - solid pause...
    Added Fury & Wrist Wraps
    120kg (264lbs) * 3, * 3 - no touch
    130kg (286lbs) * 3 - all from here touched with a called pause
    135kg (297lbs) * 3

Did a few sets of dips during the day. Tried to see how many in a row I could get as we going to do a bodyweight comp at work. Got 30 in a row with relative ease an stopped there, pretty pleased!! Aim 50 for the work comp in a couple of weeks.

Here's the vid of top set of bench:

Yeah that may be a better one... Likely put 210 down for it then see how the warmups feel! If heavy then down to 200 but with rest, food an adrenaline it should be easy for an opener

This sounds like a good plan. Im a big advocate of GO Big or GO Home. Go with 210, but drop it if you feel sluggish. Then go for a PR. A 10kg pr would be nice!
Very nice press. You have a lot of movement in your legs though. Make sure you get set and tight. Push off those heels towards your traps to keep your leg drive through the whole press. Heres a tip(you might know): Leg drive starts once you take the weight, not just on the upward press. Like i said, pushing off your heels keeps you tight and ensures proper leg drive. Any foot movement will get you reds. Your looking very strong though. Look forward to how you do.
edit- Looking again at the vid, it seems like after the first rep, you got in a better position and looked pretty tight. Good job.

Yeah its a matter of me being sure to get tight to start, BEFORE lifting the weight. I realised that during my set, i never pulled the legs back to get tight to start. Just got to focus on the set up hard and then there shouldn't be an issue... Good feedback man, appreciate it!

Agree with BC. As I said previously, if its not tight, its not right. Get so tight that there is no movement at all. Good work though mate. Just keep plugging away at it. Practise one thing at a time and it will all become second nature.

Wish you the very best at the meet. No harm in opening light. Once you get that first squat passed you will feel a whole lot better. Brian mentioned Go big or go home, I agree but get you openers out of the way. We all say ''total big or bomb tryin'' but after a few fiascos in the last few comps we also now say....''open light or go home cryin'' Good luck mate!!

And I totally agree with Justin. Always get your lift in first. THEN go big. I shouldve made that more clear. A good rule is to open around 85% of you meet max. This ensures that you dont bomb, and now you can go for broke. No reason to try and tie you prs in a meet. Thats just a waste of time. Once you got a lift passed, its time to grab the bull by the horns and leave it all on the platform. If you dont make another lift, so what. Your still in, and you gave it 110% of your being to improve. Now you know what to do for the next meet and thats what keeps us going. Im blabbing now lol. Words to live by, "Go big, its gonna hurt anyway"

6 days till the comp now!!

Advice is great. That's why I like this site. Lots of experienced lifters willing to help us more novices out! Love it.

Did some Squats today (well yesterday now lol). Final session with decent weight worked up an did 3 sets of singles at 200kg.

Confidence is good now. Didn't really struggle at it on any of the sets...
