The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

    155 x 8
    155 x 8
    155 x 8

    ramping these up each week

    SSB seated Good mornings
    145 x 15
    210 x 15

abs will do tommorow before I floor press...

got my squat plan set up for the next coming weeks leading into the meet (M/E days)

    looks like this:

    Week 1-
take your last warm up and opener with straight weight, then put on a rev band and take your 2nd attempt

    Week 2-
take your last warm up, opener, and 2nd with straight weight. Add a rev band and take your projected third

    Week 3-
take your last warm up with a rev band

    Week 4-
    Meet week

I've used reverse bands before leading into a meet but never in such a 'peaking' system to to speak like this and I will just squat sub max reps on my lower accesorry days like today, 5-6 sets of 2 around 65-80% ..followed by hammering the assistance exercises like normal... see how it fairs me this time, Im confident I will get it right this time with a structured plan I believe in, and its an advantage my weight is down as the next 4-5 weeks i can add some more to come in heavy in my weight class which always helps...

long winded but there you go, an insight into my madness

    Max effort bench

    Floor Press
    135 x 5
    175 x 5
    225 x 3
    265 x 3
    295 x 3 ( 5lbPR)

    315 x 1
    315 x 1

    Floor Press with 2 board
    225 x 10
    225 x 10
    225 x 15

    Chins
as many as i could do, about 10 sets overall... 2's and 3's, cant do many but feel them smashing my lats to bits!

    Band pull aparts

3 x 40 seconds (as many as possible in that time)

went for two with 315 and i mis grooved the second rep, come off the floor too close to my face, shot backwards and tri's are still ruined from tuesday so had no hope in hell of finishing it wihout legs, so stuck to singles, which were really fast and smooth ironically

Thanks for the insight into your madness. I'm always interested in these things.

As I've mentioned before my gym is doing this powerlifting competition in March and I don't really know how to prepare for it. I'll have about 8 weeks when I get back in January. It would be good to pick your thoughts a bit closer to the time.

    Max effort lower

    safety squat bar free squats
    bar x few x 2
    135 x 5 x 2
    225 x 5 x 2
    325 x 5
    325 x 5
    325 x 5

... lighter squats tonight. back to real squats next week for a month or so, energy is better spent there!

    Reverse Band Deadlifts
    135 x 5
    225 x 3
    315 x 1
    405 x 1
    495 x 1
    520 x 1
    550 x 1 (10lb PR)

45 degree back raise - with db's in front
    bw + 45lbs x 10
    45lbs x 10
    45lbs x 10

    Decline sit ups
4 sets of 6 with 10lb ball behind head

my deadlift continues to move in the right direction, speed was really good and I think only limiting factor of going higher might have been grip, just come off the back off 4 days off over xmas so felt good to get back in the gym, is also why I didnt risk going any heavier, CNS should be in a good place ready to start squatting heavy again leading into this meet!

Great effort J! When you do reverse band deads, what bands do you use? How much are they taking off at the bottom? I'd like to start working these in.

thanks Jk, I dont exactly know how much they are taking off at the bottom, I've never measured so to speak, I used our version of mini bands doubled before and they helped all the way through, however the way i set it up now is; with the bands one size up. choked around the safety pins put in at the top of the rack, so that from about the knee up the bands are totally deloaded so all the weight at the top you are actually feeling/moving yourself... It feels as if you get a little help off the floor maybe first 4-6 inches then you're on your own! next run i'll find out!
