The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Max effort lower(last heavy)

    Squats
    135 x 5 x few
    225 x 5 x 2
    315 x 1
    375 x 1
add belt (confidence thing, taking last warm up no belt)
    430 x 1
    465 x 1
add reverse bands (again did very little if anything- another confidence thing)
    485 x 1

smashed 465, best squat ive done for ages, took the 485 out in the wrong position, something i need to focus hard on in meet time, you really do start to realise technique is literally everything as you reach 95%+, one little thing is off and you WILL pay for it

    Deadlift
    225 x 3
    315 x 2
    405 x 2
    485 x 2
    510 x 1

    AB roller

    3 sets of 8

Done...full of cold again but everything moved nicely enough tonight, very pleased with my second attempt squat and deadlift felt absolutely fine, deadlifting with no physche is quite different though... weight is 240 and no heavy squats or deads now untill meet time 29th, last warm up next week with squat and speed deads, then de load.. coasting nicely now

    Benching

    Bench
    135 x 5 x 3
    225 x 3
    245 x 3
    265 x 1
    295 x 1

    DB extentions
    3 sets of 10 @ 25lbs

    Barbell rows
    3 sets of 10 @ 135

    Incline rear delt flies
    3 sets of 20 @ 15lbs

bench moved nicely, all paused, stopped before i started to slow or strain more than i would like, and not alot of volume, things will get boring in here now for next 2 weeks or so!

Seems like you're feeling good (apart from the cold). Training's been going really well. You'll smash it at the meet Jay.

weight felt heavy on squat but form felt superb, Im taking this as a good sign as I would rather it feel heavy now than on the 29th! deadlifts were deadlifts, pick the bar up and put it down, that simple...

    Update:

So, i am still alive fella's!

haven't trained since last thursday and not going to untill sunday of course, which is the meet! Dont think i have had a week or more off since i began training but i feel alot better for it, finally over the illness i was training with/through since mid december time, my weight suffered for it, but this week off training i have also increased my meals alot, had to sort family problems the past two weeks or so aswell so my head hasnt been right in that sense either but heres where im at: I feel good and am excited to see how i feel sunday with all this time off!

Also I pretty much had a revelation at work today, which ironically if you folllow mark bells training and info he posts he touched on today in a q n a video i will link on here for anybody who is interested

Westside for raw lifters: my squat has been up and down for so long now and I have tried all different things to try and solve the riddles, little technique changes obviously have to be factored in here too aswel as changes in bodyweight but as far as picking exercises goes etc I think I have been a slave to the box, yep... could potentially be berated for it but I will very rarely use a box or use it for decreasing the intensity of a training week etc, more of a deload/assistance tool in the future! I know people have commented on it before as not using it as much with raw lifters but im starting to believe now... For so long aswel my bench has just continued to increase except for this training cycle and again following the same pattern I am almost certain it is because I have been using too many partial lifts! yes they are great for overloading and sticking point and teaching people how to strain etc but finding the right ratio will be my battle!

as for deadlift, i rotated exercises weekly after my squat day and pretty much went with the following

    -Reverse stance
    -3.5 inch deficit
-reverse band deadlift (deloads mid shin)
    -Block pulls
    -Pulls against bands

As you can see there is a nice balance there of full range and partial range lifts, if i had more time would have added rack pulls in there and the irony here being i am super confident of a deadlift PR come sunday, which is by far my slowest progressing and weakest lift

For those who dont like to read, general gist of my little rant : If you are training raw and using the westside system, use more full range movements than partial!

    always learning!
