The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

It hurt me to watch that! Strong struggle on that 2nd rep! Really nice work JLS! Your stance is close as hell too! I think that's the second closest stance I've ever seen! (Hank Sargent was the first. He actually has his heels together when he pulls!?!)

thanks barbaccio, first rep didnt actually feel too bad, second was definitely a grinder, I had it wider but didnt feel no where near as fast or strong off the floor or as able to engage my glutes at the top, and as you can see there I have to rely alot on that bar coming off the floor pretty forcefully or it gets ugly/uglier!

they are not indeed nick! I know where or whereabouts my numbers will fall but i dont particulary mind if they are off or obviously more than i expect(bonus!) but the goal for this meet is to total 1320lbs/600kg by whatever means! I have been up and around there for some time, and desperately need to break it for my sanity's sake! Ive always never put it together for the day howver this time around it all changes *evil laugh*

    last session

last night i went in for my last session under the bar, heres how it broke down..

    Squats
    bar x few x multiple
    135 x 5 x 2
    225 x 3
    315 x 1
    315 x 1
    315 x 1

    Bench
    bar x 5 x multiple
    135 x 5
    225 x 3
    265 x 1

    T bar rows
    1 plate x 15 x 3 sets

    Side/front raises
    2 sets of 10

    Band Pushdowns
    2 sets of 25

actually felt really good, wanted to do something fast but not light enough to be joke worthy, even squats felt good which is strange, first time in 9 weeks haha, not going to complain, in hind sight, probably went heavier than i need to on bench but i blew it up like an empty bar which is good, speed kills...

probably wont post untill saturday night now to put in my little meet report, really fired up for this one, ive prepared as well as i could have and what will be, will be, i made massive diet changes, sought out a proper coach (Josh Bryant) and worked really hard at bettering my execution of the lifts, confidence is high in the smith camp, if i dont total or break 1320lbs/600kg im going to be damn close believe me, the strength is definitely there and I know I can hit it in a few different ways with different numbers... in relative terms its not a big total and i know this, its going to mean alot though after 4 unsuccesful attempts so far!

    lets go to war!

thanks for the kind words fella's

    Meet report

    7th April, Raw nationals

made a 5 hour journey upto glasgow for this one and stayed up there the night beforehand with 2 other lifters/training partners, venue was really nice, had 2 platforms going and it was a pretty well run meet, was a very very long day though, pulled my last deadlift at about 6 o clock, and had to be there at 8:30 for weigh ins

I wont ramble on... weighed in at 239lbs

    Squat

warm ups were all fine and buried nice and deep, everything was feeling good, only slight hitch was the racks/stands we were taking the weight out of were very narrow and i had to adjust my grip because of this, took 225 for one set and as sort of arched it out (i like to do this quite explosively and with 225 aswell its going to move fast anyway) i split both my little fingers open! blood everywhere!

    first attempt
425... easy but stands were right where i wanted my hands/grip

    second
450... good morning... because of first set i called to have the stands adjusted wider so i could find my hand space, once again wrong way so too narrow again, eblows shot forward at the bottom and obviously threw me over, not ideal

    third
462... called for the stands to be rocked inwards this time, boom, finally had my grip set and this rep was good, had 5-10lbs more in me

    Bench...

    275... easy, fast

297... little slow towards mid range

313... fast off chest, but wrists kinked back and couldnt finish it either

    Deadlift

was excited going in to this, deadlifts are always amazing at a meet, everybody gets behind you and it is a perfect excuse to just go crazy

    first 495... easy

second... called straight for a PR with 528... nice

Third.. 544 for a big pr and took it for a good ride haha! got to knee's and just didnt have enough left in me, right pec went absolutely crazy, hamstrings cramping. If i took this second i fully believe i would have had it!

    total: 1287 ... 10lbs off my best

Im obviously not happy I didnt PR, but i take this as a victory anyway as it was the best meet I have had for a while and If i would of made better choices adding an extra 5lbs to that last squat, and taking 5lbs off that bench and getting my third lift in I would have PR'd by 5lbs total wise, and deadlift is continuing to move in leaps and bounds

Things I have learned though, It is never going to take me almost 10-12 sets and to get to my third attempt before I have the squat stands set up correctly ever again at a meet, its not even a strength issue that has cost me there!

back to the drawing board... regional is in october, but id like to one before then, see if i can find a meet in 12 weeks or so
