The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    D/E squats

    week/wave 3

    SSB Pause squats
    bar x 15
    145 x 2
    185 x 2
    235 x 2
    ----
    300 x 2 x 6
    340 x 1
    375 x 1
    415 x 1
    440 x 1

    12" SSB box squats
    190 x 10
    190 x 10
    190 x 10

    Fat Bar RDL's
    135 x 15
    145 x 15
    145 x 15

    Abs
    3 sets of 15

previous best squat with the SSB bar is 440, so to squat it tonight with a long pause at the bottom pre fatigued and with plenty in the tank im again pretty damn pleased. Got a little pain in my lower back which hurt my descent a bit but when i moved my stance out and got a bit tighter it alleviated it alot... I could of went heavier tonight but my thinking is if i hold off slightly within the next few weeks as we lead up to this gym test max week (yes i hate that i actually said that but no meets in sight) I should be raring and 100 percent to really put a decent squat in which ive working so hard towards

    Strong squatting, Jay!!

What's the benefit of using an SSB as opposed to a normal barbell?

thanks gaz. The SSB has a few advantages, One of the main one's from a safety standpoint is it takes alot of stress off your shoulders.

The main reason I like it so much is because Its harder to use than a normal bar, the way it sits on your back artificially lengthens your spine so you have to work extra hard to get your lower/upper back tight and keep your positioning. It also has a tendancy to throw you forward or round you over when the weights get really heavy, and i guess also it gives a bit of extra quad work, which is always good for a raw squatter. I just think its a great tool and when I come back to using a normal bar I feel alot stronger and shoulders obviously feel a lot healthier from not having to force myself under a normal barbell!

watch somebody do good mornings with them or a very low box squat on youtube and you will see what im talking about! it becomes severly limiting haha, especially good mornings! It feels like somebody is pushing down on your head as you descend!

    RE bench

    Bench
    Bar x 15 close/medium/wide
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    225 x 3
    265 x 5
    265 x 5
    265 x 5
    265 x 5
    275 x 6 (all time rep. Pr)

Swiss bar 1 board - long pauses
    3 sets of 3

    Push downs
    5 sets of 20

    Chest supported rows
Worked up in 10lb jumps to a max set of 8 - about 6 sets I believe

    Upright row superset with curls
    3 sets of 20

Last week of 5's so thought it may be time to push for a rep pr. left 1-2 in the tank so again my bench is building nicely again. Have religiously trained a bench movement, tri's,lats and upper back really hard and haven't over thought it , just rather done it and its paying off big time

    255 x 3

    DB's Presses @ 95's - max reps
    incline - 15 reps
    flat - 15 reps

    DB extentions
    3 sets of 15

    Chest supported rows
    4 sets of 15

    Shrugs/curls
2 sets of 20 of each

all reps were smooth and easy, could feel on ne set i was too far up the bench, got a real good feel for where i feel strongest on this day, will build on this thursday through original R/E day and add 5lbs and keep building untill max day

    Tonight- D/E squats

    Squat
    bar x 15 x few
    135 x 8
    185 x 5
    225 x 3
    ----
    315 x 2 x 9
315 x 15 - went a bit wild with this set, strength for 20's there but was gassed haha!

12'' Box squat - SSB Bar
    210 x 8
    210 x 8
    210 x 8

    Decline abs

    3 sets of 10

took alot of sets to feel strong on squats tonight, about 8 in i felt best slightly wider! hence going a bit mad on the last set.. would have been pretty cool to say I have done 315 x 20 but I would have had to struggle and grunt a bit and at this point in the training cycle its hardly worth it!
