The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Smolovbase cycle week 1- day 4

    5 mins ellipitcal

    squats

Needed a good day today more than ever and it delivered! was up early to eat my eggs and oats and smased this out. Had to finally introduce some caffiene today and I think it worked nicely. Form/execution was ten times better today, think last nights abismal sets scared me a bit into turning it on. Lot of confidence going into week 2. lets add 10kg/22.5lbs and get to work!

    Smolov base - week 2, day 1

    Squat
    bar x lots
    135 x 8
    225 x 3
    315 x 1
    ---
    4 x 9 @ 335

went to bench today but I went upto 225 close grip, with feet up, did two reps and forearms were just saying please no more. Cut it there. Squat PR is my priority anyways. Check out blog post, go into a bit more comical detail. made some interesting points for debate too. Sounds like im plugging and I hate it because this is my home, but really want people to read, think smolov is cool as hell. I feel like im part of a squatting cult LOL

Checked out the blog man. Good stuff! Good to see the vids, I think it may pay just to sink the reps maybe just another inch to be on the safe side depth wise. Want to make sure that with a program like smolov you get the technique drilled in correctly!

Looking good though man, hammering it. How are the legs feeling?

I agree H, ive been looking at my depth and thinking I need to drop 'em a tad on these first sets, however I do keep messing up my first sets, you can see how low the bar is, I usually carry it an inch higher, need a better angle too, i'll film a whole session saturday I think because I know I'll be squatting solo, so I can really check 'em out from a proper perspective. Im not cheating I promise!

Legs feel fine though, feel like theres all the power in the world below, its my top half thats taking the beating, especially wrists/forearms as I've been crying about since the start. Looking forward to the rep drops though too, Dont have to stay as tight as for long etc!

Had a good session today, got some benching in too

Smolov base cycle week 3-day 1

    Bench
    bar x 20
    135 x 5 x 2
    175 x 5
    225 x 3
    265 x 3
    285 x 3
    315 x 1

    Smolov Squats
    4 sets of 9 @ 355

    Floor Press + chain
4 sets of 5 @ 165+65ish chain (not all on bar at top)

very surprised with how the bench felt. Was awful on the way down but watching the video back they all moved at that same pace, even the 315/140kg, considering I havent gone over 225 in 3 weeks, I think next week I might squeak out a little 5lb PR.
