The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Dig the pulling, the new hat, and if I hadn't said it before, nice gym too - looks like a good place to train.

Thanks coke its not a bad gym at all, moving to a bigger unit over xmas/new year and it should be like a proper training facility, 6 racks, 4 comp benches in the line up, heavier dumbells, more bars, platforms, chains etc. I personally cant effing wait.

    Change of direction.

Right, I'll make no excuses but know this. I am not a cop out, and alot of you knew I was at a cross roads in which way I wanted to take my training. Well, after this weeks sheiko experience I dont think its for me, think I got a bit carried away in the success of my smolov experience. So, I've gone back to my roots and whats got me this far.

    Bench

Was at a bit of a loss what to do tonight so went with week 3 of the new plan so when I return to it in a month I have something to beat. Base layer as it were or a platform!

    5 mins elliptical
    shoulder circuit

    1a)Explosive Push up on box
    4 x 2

    2a)Bench (Comp style)
    bar x lots
    135 x 5
    175 x 5
    225 x 3
    245 x 3
    265 x 3
285 x 1 (horrible mis load, had 10lbs more on one side, wouldnt of got 3 anyway!)
    275 x 3 (all paused 1st rep, T n go rest)
    (backdowns 75%)
    210 x 8
    210 x 8
    210 x 8

    3a)DB Floor Press
    100's x 12
    85's x 12

    4a)Chest supported Rows
    135 x 10
    135 x 10
    135 x 10
    135 x 10
    135 x 10

    4b)Band Pull aparts
    5 sets of 20 reps

    superset
    5a) Front raises 3x12
    5b) Hammer curls 3x12
    5c) Rope Pushdowns 3x12

done. Good first session to find out a base foundation and where abouts I am at in terms of bench strength, which is obviously not very high atm, About 20lbs away from comp single but that will all change. I am going to do conjugate style training with a periodisation twist. Its a chad wesley smith adapted template. I dont want to hear no bitching.

I will be stronger and better regardless of the early switch!

Conjugate has been my bread and butter for probably close to 2-3 years now H, if I train any othe wy it just feels like a job an I hate not enjoying it, when I can still make gains training this way... Will just pickup where I left off, 8 weeks followed by Heavy triples (hopefully PR's) in the main lift 1-2 weeks out and a deload the meet week, pretty standard run!

    DE Bench

Got a annoying pain, knot, pull or some form of hinderance in my lower back, down the left side, Think ive slept funny, feels like a pulling/pinching sensation. Opted for speed bench today as opposed to heavy lower. Will see how it feels tommorow and decide obviously on ME lower or DE.

    5 mins elliptical
    Upper body warm up circuit

    1)Bench
    bar x lots
    135 x 10
    135 + 55lbs chain x 3
    155 + 55lbs chain x 3
    -----
    190 + 80lbs chain x 3
    190 + chain x 3
    190 + chain x 3
    190 + chain x 3
    190 + chain x 3
    190 + chain x 3

    (60% bar weight.)

    2)Z presses
    bar x 12
    90 x 12
    90 x 12

    3)Pull ups
    3 @ BW+10lbs
    BW x 5 assisted
moved onto 3 sets of 15 rows to act get some work in. woeful! Will build up in time.

    4)DB extentions
    3 sets of 8 @ 40lbs

    5)Pec deck
    2 sets of 20

    6a) Rear delt raises- 25lbs- 2x20
    6b) Barbell curls- 55lbs- 2x20
    6c) DB shrugs- 75lbs- 2x20

Speed was great today. Nice and snappy, tried to really feel for the deload of the chains on the way down to wind my triceps up, hold on the chest/lats then fire up. 6x3 is a nice rep scheme, keeps it just in enough of a time frame to keep you well focused and not get lazy or tired with the sets even with short rest. Will probably have to lower the chain weight to keep it within 75-85% at the top as the waves progress. Looking forward to the DE lower days.

Must have been bench and chains day! Lol. I did the same. For your back have you tried rolling on a baseball? Hurts like hell but helps more than anything else I've done when my lower back gets knotted.

The lower back ordeal happens to us all man, no rhyme or reason for it either, at least it clears though.

    Session is solid guy.

Bench and chains are a lovely combination haha! I dont do it often, im more of a fan of the rumble and foam rollers! seems only logical upon this suggestion to incorporate it more though! nice one bruiser!

    ME lower

    5 mins elliptical
    agile 8

    seated box jumps
    6x3

    1)SSB Free squat
    bar x few x 2
    135 x 3
    175 x 3
    225 x 3
    265 x 3
    315 x 3
    365 x 3
    405 x 3
425 x 3 (possibly a PR, albeit far from pretty)
    315 x 5
    315 x 5

2)Rack Pull. (2-3inches below knee cap)
    135 x 5
    225 x 5
    315 x 5
    385 x 5
    385 x 5
    385 x 5

    3) 45 degree back raise
    5 sets of 15

    4) Russian barbell twist
    3 sets of 15

    5) Ab roller
    3 sets of 12

left with an absolutely obnoxious lower back pump. Enjoying the new setup though, alot of work but its obviously whats been lacking in the past. Onwards I stride! SSB is literally the bane of my existence.

    M/E upper

    2 board press
    bar x lots
    135 x 5
    175 x 5
    225 x 3
    265 x 3
    285 x 3
    315 x 3
    320 x 3
    245 x 8 (Close grip)
    245 x 8
    245 x 8

    Flat DB's
    100's x 12
    100's x 12

    Chest supported barbell rows
    5 sets of 10 @ 145

    Band Pull aparts
    5 sets of 20

    a) Front raise - 20lbs
    b) Hammer curls - 40lbs
    c) Band pushdowns - light band

All 3x12 except for pushdowns (3x failure)

Had to give blood today for some tests, Had a weird incident in the middle of the night tuesday with really low blood sugar levels, and uncontrollable violent shaking. Was very peculiar. 2 board felt like a bag of smashed ass holes as expected, horrible range of motion for me, and I realy hate board presses with a passion but probably all the more reason I should be doing them, maybe the giving blood had something to do with it, maybe not. Floor Press next week. Will deffo make up some lost benching ground there for sure. Will also be 3rd ME bench day too. I usually start to notice im feeling a lot stronger around the 3-4 week mark and it obviously gains momentum from there.

Had just hit 0 degrees as I left the gym. Gonna be a cold night. Best start up the multi vitamins etc before the man flu strikes!

The winter freeze does get real tough, but we have to put on the thermals and deal with it best we can.

    265 + chain x 2
    265 + chain x 2
    265 + chain x 2
    265 + chain x 2

    One legged squats
    2 sets of 12

    Arch back GM's
    5 sets of 15 @ 95lbs

    a) Wide leg sit ups 3x15
    b) DB side bends 3x15

Head wasnt with it today, just got it done and out. Weights all moved fine, but my kidney area feels pretty numb. Strange sensation and is playing on my mind. Hopefully just an infection or something even milder. Was supposed to do reverse hypers in place of GM's but cant find any way of rigging one up. Gm's should suffice for now.

    thanks fella's

Back on a normal schedule this week.

    ME Bench

    Floor Press (comp grip)
    bar x 15
    135 x 10
    175 x 3
    225 x 3
    240 x 3
    255 x 3
    270 x 3
    280 x 3
    Add chain 25lbs
    225 x 8 *close grip
    225 x 8
    225 x 8

    DB inclines
    80's x 12
    100's x 12

    Chest supported BB rows
    155 x 10
    155 x 10
    155 x 10
    155 x 10
    155 x 10

    Band Pull Aparts
    5 sets of 20

    a)Front raise -3x12
    b)Hammer curls -3x12
    c)Rope pushdowns -3x12

Think I was about 10lbs off PR with some in the tank. Like I said last week, start picking up momentum second/third rotations. Floor pressed more than I benched 2 weeks ago and floor press is pretty much a bench with no legs for me so thats something at least. Deadlift and dead squats tommorow, I dont know wether to go with sumo or move my stance out a bit conventional, Id hazard a guess I'll be around 495-505 for a triple tommorow.
