The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Bro day

    Swiss bar clean and press
    bar x lots x lots
    110 x 10
    145 x 5
    165 x 3
    175 x 3
    175 x 3
    175 x 3
200 x 1.5 tried a second for a PR today but no, will just add weight next time
    quick swap to normal bar
    135 x 12
    135 x 12

Front raise/ side raise giant set
    30lb DB x 6
    20lb DB x 8
    15lb DB x 10

    3 rounds

    Barbell Floor ext.
    3 sets of 10 @ 90

    Wide Grip Rows
    4 sets of 12
    One rest pause 20/8/2

    Fat man medley
325 farmers walk x20 Metres (there and back)
    135lb Keg carry x20 metres (there and back) 1 round : 45 seconds'ish
punch bag x20 metres (there and back)

375 farmers walk x20 Metres (there and back)
135lb Keg carry x20 metres (there and back) 3 rounds : 54/50/44 for the win
punch bag x20 metres (there and back)

Had four of us going at the medley with timers and trying to beat each other, come down to the last run for me to win and it turns out I wasnt trying as hard as I could haha, shaved nearly 10 secs off first run to take the win! Makes me sick the competitors in WSM run around with 275lb objects for jokes. The farmers and keg arent particulary heavy (going to fill the other 3 today heavier) but it takes it out of you. Good fun too.

Just going to throw it out there aswel, my grip has never ever felt stronger after doing these, about a month now.

    Deadlift day - speed/explosive

    Deadlift
    bar x 10
    135 x 10
    225 x 5
    315 x 5
    355 x 2
    ---
    385 x 2
    385 x 2
    385 x 2
    385 x 2
    385 x 2

    Snatch grip block pull
    385 x 12
    385 x 12
    385 x 12

    Close stance High bar squat
    225 x 8
    315 x 8
    405 x 8

    DB shrugs
    3 sets of 15 @ 100's - squeeze at top

    Wide grip lat pulldowns
    4 sets of 15

    Back raises
    3 sets of 20

good session once again, hit the deads up fast and one after the other. Only two of us so we were done in under 2 mins. Last set was actually quite hard LOL! Left the weight on and went in snatch grip pulls and Close high bar squats were good, I would of done 10 on the 405 but the tenth would of been ugly to give an idea of how hard they were. Im pleased with the progress I've made with both those and the snatch grip deads in 5-6 weeks.

Im supposed to be 3 weeks out from a meet aswel, but im only 80% sure im going to do it. In a very strange mindset and I dont think its worth doing it if im not 100% sure. I havent got that horrible egde you have when you're 100%, I think its just the run of training over xmas/NYE... dont get me wrong, im feeling very very strong and good and ive lost a few lbs and think even my conditioning is actually getting good for once, im sleeping like a baby which hasnt happened in forever, and Im also pretty sure I've got some PR's in me, just doesn't seem as if training partners are 100% either. I read corey hayes comment on one question posted by greg panora on facebook and he said he only competes when he really feels like it. He will always lift and always love training though regardless. If any of the guys on here who do compete can weigh in id love to hear your experiences along the lines with this sort of thing.

I think I've got an idea about how hard they were mate... F**KING HARD?? solid work Jay, especially after the speed pulls!

I've never competed buddy so can't comment on you getting in the right mindset for this but I can comment on the support you'll get from everyone one here... 100% either way! you'll figure out what you want to do here buddy but if you do decide to go for it then I'm sure you'll smash it with the way you're training has been going recently.

This is a tough time of year to compete and I usually dont. Just coming off the holiday hangover, usually diet is crap and just dont feel like doing shit some days. I know just how you feel. Normally, if the meet isnt all that expensive, i might do a push/pull or single lift and use it as an ME day to get a general idea of where im at. If your not really in to it, then I suggest passing on it. Get everyrhing straight and plan for an early spring meet instead.

You have been looking mighty strong mate but as others have said if your not 100% after it then is it really worth it? I would just make the call soon man an get in the zone (if possible) if you decide to do it an if not then keep up the solid training

Thanks a lot for your support and inputs fella's, I appreciate the kind words as ever and we did come to the decision tonight we will abandon this one and pursue the nationals we qualified for last meet in April. That gives a solid 10-11 weeks after this week of lead up and time to get our heads together for a plan and heads around turning up in best shape possible, physically and MENTALLY.

    175 x 5
    225 x 3
    245 x 2

    80's x 10

    20's x 20
    20's x 20
    20's x 20

Me and one training partner literally did the same thing, we've used the same weights all through and he out benched me by 5lbs last meet. We rocked upto top set tonight expecting to rep out and we both got off the bench, looked at each other in bemusement and sort of just got on with it. I thought what the hell. after that abismal 5 reps lets see where the 1rm is standing. Im still at 315 but I should be alot higher. I cant stay around this weight forever so back to the old trusted style of bench routine thats always worked for us now I think. As I stated, we are looking at the nationals now and I think tonight was a big wake up call. We all needed it really. Squat and deadlift feel fantastic and I'll be working up around the 95% radius thursday night so should be interesting!

    Squat night

    Squats
    bar x lots x 2
    135 x 10 x 2
    175 x 5
    225 x 5
    265 x 2
    315 x 2
    365 x 1
    405 x 1
    440 x 1 *belt on
    495 x 1 *belt broke (irony)
    315 x 15 beltless

    Paused Leg press
    4 plates x 15
    4 plates x 15
    4 plates x 15
    4 plates x 15

    Leg extentions
    3 sets of 20

    Elevated SLDL's 1.5 reps
    135 x 10
    135 x 10
    135 x 10
(one rep counts as down... up, down halfway like a dimmel dead and back up)

    Ab roller
    3 sets of 10

I was going to take 495 for some reps tonight, was feeling great working up, setup for 495 took it out and squatted down and about 3/4 down my belt shot open, luckily its a lever and held on just enough not to shoot off completely so I finished the rep and ironically came up very strong. I would of squatted a PR of some form tonight wether it be 4-5 with the 495 or a double around 510-515 (obviously would have been a bit harder) but I was majorly pissed off and started getting to work on my plan for the nationals so just dropped to 3 pies a side and did some reps.

The next 4 weeks direction will be more of a bb style training aiming for some volume and muscle mass. I'm simply just going to do everything beltless and pick a weight and go up 20lbs each week. EG. next weeks squats I will go with 330 and do some higher reps 12-15, week after 355, week after 375, wk after 405 and so on. Got some ZMA tonight and glutamine, need to get protein of some form and some creatine and im good to go! lets do this.

That's awesome about the belt! Maybe lay off the buffet fatty! Lol. Good plan on the ZMA and glutamine too. I take a recovery supp at night along with my glutamine. Then first thing in the am I take a mix of grapefruit juice, lemon juice, aminos, creatine and glutamine. My recovery has been sick!
