    DIY Bench boards

So, I am in the midst of constructing some and I had a question: Should I go with a 2x6 or a 2x4?

Kinda never mind, I just cut a length of 2x6 and gonna taper a handle on to it soon. I suppose the real question is...how long should the handle/bench surface be?
