If youíre like most people, you have a job where you spend your entire day sitting and you have very little free time. Because of this, you donít really exercise, despite the knowledge of the benefits of exercise and the health risks of a sedentary life. If youíve let yourself get out of shape, itís time to start working to become fit again. So take a few minutes out of your day to help your health.
The first thing you need to do to help your body by getting off your butt more and stretch your legs. Every hour or so, take a short break and walk around for a couple of minutes. Regardless of your job, this shouldnít be that difficult. If you travel for a living, get up to stretch when you can. If you sit at a desk, even just standing while typing can have a positive effect on your circulation and help your body.
If you want to get really healthy, youíll have to do more than just stand once in awhile; youíll need to do some real exercising. One of the biggest roadblocks that holds people back from getting fit, though, is simple motivation. There are so many reasons NOT to exercise. After all, you work long hours, donít have much extra time or money, and itís difficult to force yourself to spend what little you have on something that you donít really enjoy.. However, itís important to remember that you can exercise without spending much money, and spending a little time getting healthy now will allow you to have much more time in the future.
Find a way to force yourself to exercise, even if itís just 15 minutes a day 4 times a week. Almost everyone can find an hour in their week to devote to exercise, and if you make up your mind to do it, set alarms, tell others, and plan times to exercise with a friend, after a few times it wonít seem that difficult.
Get started on cardio
To help you get into shape and live longer, you need to get out of the chair and start doing some cardio exercises. They will help your heart and help you shed some extra pounds without taking up too much of your time. Jogging is one of the best and cheapest exercises you can do, and you can do it pretty much anywhere; even if your job takes you to strange foreign places every day of the week, you can still get out and run around the block. Itís also great because you donít need much gear. If you have a pair of tennis shoes and some shorts you can get started running.
If you havenít exercised lately, it wonít be fun at first. In fact, itíll probably feel pretty awful. You still need to stick with it, though, to start getting the benefits. Just a few minutes a day will make you feel better and live longer, and you will probably start to enjoy it after awhile.
Donít let the weather be an excuse
If the weatherís stopping you, you can still get some exercise inside by doing jumping jacks, or using a jump rope. Itís not too hard to find some exercises to do inside, and sticking to your routine regardless of other circumstances will help you in your quest to get fit.
No matter how much time a day you spend working, you can still spend a few minutes standing, stretching, running, or doing some other type of exercise each week. It may seem pointless or like too much work, but a little goes a long way and you could be giving yourself extra years that youíll be able to enjoy down the road.
