    Squat Comp Advice

Was back in my suit today in lead up to my upcoming comp. Have put the vid below. Would like to get some advice. I lift IPF and my comp is about 2 weeks away. Considering making 230kg (506lbs) my opener. Feel that weight helped me get better depth, just after some advice. Do you guys think it would be a safe opener? And also any other technical hints you may have from watching the vid would be appreciated!

If you can double it in training, it's a safe opener.... the only questions are, did you get low enough for the ipf to consider your squat deep enough? You can never tell in videos. And, how confident are you in contest?

Some lifters can open very near their max and feel confident, some guys need to open up way lighter so that they don't panic.

Open where you are confident that you can take it as deep as you need to on that day and still power through it.

    Good luck.

Pull those elbows down harder. When you bind in the hole this will keep you up right more andkeep you going back instead of forward.

Sit back more into the suit. If you do a freeze frame viewing, your knees come forward as soon as your hips even come back. IPF squatters get jack out of their suit because they try to squat like they would raw. You're lifting single-ply so adjust your squatting style when you become lift-specific in training. You may need to sit the bar a little higher since you're most likely going to GM a tough weight up due to your levers.

When you unrack, let the weight settle before moving back. You waste energy trying to stablize a weight that's oscillating and you compromise your setup. Seems like a small detail but can really make a difference. In general, take your time and never rush your setup.

What type of shoes are those?

theBarzeen - Yeah its that depth which is hardest to tell, agree that a double should be a safe opener. Think I will go with it... Get nervous for comps but normally switch on well too.

ScottYard - Appreciate that tip! Will work on that.

BloodandThunder - I see what you mean about the knees. Practicing sitting back in suit is needed for sure. Never thought of standing stable before moving back. Makes sense, thanks. Shoes are just flat soled cheapies.

Just put it in your head to really sink your opener and you'll be fine.... Good luck. You look strong.
