The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Agreed Brian. I thought it looked higher in the vid but I was assured otherwise and they are a harsh bunch, lol.

Notes: Sometimes these days are good sometimes not so much. I just go by feel depending on what shape I am in after squats on the Friday night. I think this session was just meh from what I remember.

Also, its not everyday you get asked to help lift a 10 month old white tiger from a van into its pen which is what happened on Friday night. The owner of the gym I squat at some Fridays owns a tiger sanctuary & quarantine facility and yes it is just 10 feet away from his house!!! Anyway, he arrives back in the van (the gym is also on his land) on the Friday night just as we finished squatting after having driven from France with this thing in the back (she was PISSED). He asks us to come and help lift her in and not to worry as she is in a cage within a cage. This didnt matter....when she hissed and roared it was TERRIFYING. I mean, properly scary. There were seven powerlifters all standing looking at each other thinking F*CK THIS!!!!! The reason he got her is because she needs an operation on her eyes. He pays for the procedure and he gets to keep her. Fair deal. I believe she is worth in and around what would be $80,000. He has a ten year old female tiger that he has had from a cub. She is tame enough that he (I dont think anyone else would dare to) can get in with her and pretty much treat her like a pet dog. Three male cubs that he had while in quarantine were the complete opposite. These things would have mauled you in an instant. While we were getting the new tiger moved in we could hear all this banging and clattering from the other tiger which was out in its play area which is beside the strongman yard. She was flicking one of the old SM kegs that he had given her around like it was made of foam. Is it any wonder that he never has any trouble with burglars. These things are impressive as hell but best admired from a distance.

Bench Training - 10 days out (Opener)

    *ralgex
    *OH squats w/ mm
    *rumble roller (everywhere)
    *static stretching

    Bench
    barx50
    154x10
    220x5
    sling shot
    308x3
    396x1
    shirt
    440x3 - 3b
    484x1 - 2b
    528x1 < opener

Notes: Nothing was done for the sake of it last night. This is my exact plan for meet day. No needless sets or reps. I could walk in and do this any night of the week.

The only thing I was unhappy with about my opener was the length of time it took to touch. This is the very lightest weight I would be able to touch confidently especially with a bit of bloat come meet day. I could feel my left wrist cranking back searching for the touch and this is a sure way to dump on that side. That aint going to happen!!

    BENCH TRAINING IS DONE......

No joke, tigers are best to be admired from a distance, lol - awesome story, the scenario you guys were in was off the chain.

I do understand your sentiments with the opening bench work, you got it done though and will be fine.

Cheers B. The left wrist is badly cocked eh? I will really need to be mindful of it. A bit more weight would have trailed it right back.

Im going 528, 572......600. Thats the plan anyhow. Of course, it depends on how the day is going.

Thanks Brian. It was a rush alright. Those things are monstrous. It would have made short work of all of us.

Cheers Hayden. A faster press would have been nice but hey.

Yeah he is a big strong dude. At a very lean 220 he is as broad as he is tall. He pressed a solid 700 of his chest on Wednesday night.

Squat & Deadlift Training - Openers

    *OH Squats
    *static stretching
    *band dislocates

    Squats
    barx20
    176x5
    286x3
    briefs
    396x3
    506x1
    suit
    616x1
    660x1

    Deadlift
    154x5
    264x3
    374x3
    suit
    484x1
    600x1

Notes: Everything felt good. Just a smidge deeper on the squat and a bit faster on the pull would have been ideal but that doesnt really matetr as long as I do it on the day. Nothing now but to keep the blood moving, stay loose, eat and rest.

BPC South East Qualifier - 14th April

I didnt have the exact day I wanted so I will just have to wait a little longer for that. I cruized in at a light 231lbs. No messing around cutting weight. I kept everything simple.

    Heres how it went

    Squat
    660 - good
    700 - good
    733 - no lift (depth)

    Bench
    528 - good
572 - no lift (bar dipped)
    572 - good

    Deadlift
    600 - good
    638 - good
    passed on 3rd

6 for 8 attempts and 1914lb for a first multiply total.

The lifts I didnt get were technical errors. I will fix these. 2000lbs+ will fall next time if everything goes to plan. My squat really let me down yesterday and I didnt get a crack at 600 on the bench. These are the only things that really annoyed me. I thought at least 750-760 was there to be squatted but it didnt work out. Next time.

I strained something right in the belly of my right pec during my second bench attempt. It has gotten much worse today so I am taking ibuprofen every few hours and icing. Fingers crossed it heals quick. Breathing is even causing quite a bit of pain. Clearing my throat and sneezing are brutal.

2000 will fall! Looked pretty good, that last squat would've come up too, just unlucky you didn't sink it one more inch!

Hope that injury clears quick, nice meet bro, well done!
