    "offseason" bodyweight

    What is generally recommended for an offseason weight compared to a competition weight? Is 20 pounds of difference too much? I currently compete in 165? Thanks.

    I think 20 is a little bit much for a 165. It's relative to what %tage of your bodyweight the difference is. Right now I compete at 242 and stay at 255 to no more than 260 (rarely) to train at. I won't have to cut more than 13 (ideally) to 18 pounds of water weight and am back to about 255ish to compete with a 24 hour weigh in. I'm back to the weight that my gear fits at when I'm training for the meet. Much more than that and it will effect how I lift. At 165 comp weight, and weighing 185 to start cutting; 20 lbs. would be a fairly large percentage of your bodyweight to drop and it would very likely hurt your results on the platform. I'd think 8-10 would be the most you'd want to be over without worrying about it effecting your meet. You'll find examples of some dropping much more and putting up big lifts. But those are the exceptions and not the norm.

    Sounds good... I'll probably get up to 178 max then a month and a half from the competition drop to 172 and just lose the last 7 pounds as water weight. I compete USAPL so the 2 hour weigh ins are kind of a pain.

    I would try to keep your weight more consistent throughout the year, then you can do more meets without worrying too much, unless there is a significant record you are shooting for weight class really isn't that important. If you are 178 6 weeks out I would just go 181 and put up a bigger total.

    If you had a 24 hour weigh in I'd say that 10% body weight was OK, but with 2 hour weigh ins I wouldn't try to drop 15 lbs in water.

    If you can walk around at 185, I'm with SELK, just go 181 an total more.... or keep it lean all year and train the way you compete.

    I was wondering this as well. When I lifted 242 I was generally around 250lbs. But I only ever had a 2 hour weigh in window. Which can make for a nasty dehydrated state come time to squat.

    I wouldnt go over 168. 3 lbs is alot at with a 2 hour weigh in at 165.
    Best raw meet lifts
    Squat:765 with wraps. / 700 raw with out wraps
    Bench: 525
    Deadlift: 755
    Total: Raw with wraps: 2000. with out wraps: 1925

    Best lifts Equipped
    1050, 840, 715. Total: 2605

    You didn't mention the 2 hr. weigh in. Forget what I said. If I don't weigh in the day before, I just lift at whatever I weigh.
