    08/01/2013 Deadlift

    Deadlift from deficit ~3"
    135xsome
    Add Green Bands
    135x3
    135x3 belt
    185x3
    225x2
    275x2

    Leg Curls
    3sets of 15 each leg

    Weighted Abs
    3sets of 15

Deadlifts were good today. Used a deadlift bar instead of the other bar since other people were pulling with it in the rack before I used it. 275 was heavy for 2 with the bands. One more pull before the meet.
    Best competition lifts:
    650lbs. raw squat
    441lbs. raw bench
    580lbs. raw deadlift

No. Gonna pull with bands same way one more time in about a week. That's all. Same with benching. I never really do a straight weight heavy lift on either before a meet. I have a good enough idea of what I think I can do and what I want to get.

    08/03/2013 Bench (Heavy)

    Bench Press
    barxsome
    135x8
    Add Doubled Red Bands
    135x3
    185x3
    225x3

    295x3 PR
    255x5

    3sets of 30 light

    Triceps Pushdowns
    3sets of 30 light

Bench was good today. 295 felt pretty easy for 3. Estimate the bands to be similar to 170lbs. extra at the top. Doubled purples are similar to approximately 200lbs. extra and these are very close to purples but much bigger than the monster mini bands. Either way the top end is at least as much or more than what I want to hit at the meet and isn't feeling that heavy so I think 450 definitely is possible on a good day. One more bench day left. Probably going to try to double 315 with the same bands.

Last week just did 2 really light deload days. Tonight was my last heavy deadlift before the meet.

    08/12/2013 Deadlift (heavy)

    Deadlift from deficit ~2"
    95xsome to warmup
Add doubled small blue bands (same or slightly more than old purples)
    95x3x2sets
    145x3 belt
    195x3
    245x2
    295x2
    345x2

    Squat Machine (light)
    225x10x3sets

    Leg Curls
3sets of 15 each leg light

    Weighted Abs
    3sets of 20 light

Bands were setup around bottom of wood platform I was standing on while pulling, since the power rack was still being used for another hour or more after I waited about 20mins for it. So we found a different way to use the bands. I think these were definitely less than the greens on the other setup, but still were not easy at the top. So happy deadlift is done until the meet. Last bench on Thursday.

    441lbs. raw bench

Last heavy bench day before meet.

    08/15/2013 Bench

    Bench Press
    barxsome
    135x8
    Add doubled red bands
    135x3
    185x3
    225x2
    275x2
    305x2 PR easy
    320x1 PR easy

    PecDec
    3sets of 20 light

    Rope Pushdowns
    3sets of 20 light

I had planned on using monster mini bands with more bar weight, but could only find one of them, so used the same bands as last time instead. Benching felt good. 305 and 320 sets with bands were both easy. About 490 at top of last set and could have done at least 1 or 2 more reps. I think 450 should go at the meet. I will have video of last 2 sets on facebook sometime later.

    Here's how meet went yesterday:

08/24/2013 RPS South Florida push/pull meet

    Bench:

    1st- 405lbs. very easy, 3 whites
2nd- 435lbs. good (not super easy, but not hard), 3 whites
    3rd- 445lbs. just missed barely (lockout), 3 reds/miss

    Deadlift:

    1st- 520lbs. slow but ok, 3 whites
2nd- 560lbs. got it off the floor but not close, 3 reds/miss
    3rd- passed

Got a 5lbs. meet pr on bench. 435lbs. was smooth and not a problem. Other people said it was fast, but it didn't feel that fast to me but never slowed down either. So close with 445lbs. I hate missing it that close. I thought I had it for sure, was easy off the bottom. Definitely would have got 440lbs., which will for sure be my second next time. Good thing is my shoulders felt good and no issues with that at all, which have one or both been aggravated at times from heavy benches at meets.

Deadlift felt shitty from warmups on. My right knee was aggravated a lot on this day, even starting at 315. 520lbs. was slow, but I made sure to open light enough that I wouldn't miss it, because it's always important to me that my benching counts. I went to 560lbs. next, because if it felt ok I would still attempt a pr on my 3rd was the idea. I tried putting knee wraps on for this attempt, since my knee felt bad with the 520lbs. My knee felt only a tiny bit better with the wraps on, but I missed it a little off the floor regardless. I still at least tried. I hate it when people take tokens instead of at least trying to lift something (unless you are real seriously injured of course). Passed on the third because it wasn't close and didn't think it would go trying it again. Fuck deadlift... still hate this lift and probably always will.

Taking this week off. Will train next week. I am buying some chains for our gym this week though, because I like benching with them, and we don't have any where I train now.

Plan to compete bench-only next meet. Probably will do raw unity if they don't change the rules to have to have your feet flat. If they do change it that I can't bench on my toes, then I will look for another meet early next year. Will go 440 second and over 450 third attempt at least next time.

I will also be using my shirt some. Maybe do a shirted bench meet sometime before or after that meet. I need to be comfortable enough with my shirt and get something decent out of it before I do a meet with it. Whenever that happens, then I will. My focus really will always be raw bench above anything else until I get at least 500lbs. raw because that's my main goal in powerlifting.

I need to also do some knee rehab stuff consistently now, but won't be squatting or pulling heavy until it feels better. I will do lower body stuff that doesn't bother my knee though. I don't think I will do a full meet again until at least mid to late next year. I would like to do one when I think I have a good shot at 700lbs. raw squat again.

I still wonder how much the collars weighed. They weren't counted as part of the weight. Mindy said they weigh basically nothing but who knows. I never thought about it or looked at them till I saw the video after.

Killer job at the meet thats a huge push and pull. Congrats on the bench PR as well, deadlift has always been my worst/hated lift as well.

Thanks...I always say if I pull 700lbs. once I will never deadlift again. That would be more than enough to be happy with forever.

Barbell rows lying on the bench are awesome. Highly recommend this lift. Seen a video shared of them on facebook. Defintely will be doing these a lot and add more weight next time. Happy I could do leg extensions also even if only with 10-15lbs. and not full extension yet. But I couldn't do them at all with 10lbs. about a month ago with right leg.

Benching felt good. A lot of sets for me working up. Didn't realize till after was already 413 on last set. This was with new chains I just bought and weighed them at the gym. I could only find 3/8" chain for a decent price without special ordering it from somewhere so that's why the awkward amounts. I will probably buy one more chain for each side to have just over 100lbs. in chains. The setup was really good though. I like chains for creating a smaller difference between top and bottom and more like straight weight and bands for a bigger contrast between them so this will work fine.

Done. Did the rows heavier than last time. Still very impressed by the video with 440 for reps that I watched on facebook that was the reason for me trying these. Plan to add a plate/quarter every week to the rack pulls as my knee feels better then lower the height. Will add other rehab stuff next week, including stationary bike and light squats and/or leg press. I will also still do the leg extensions light until I can do at least 50lbs. with ok range of motion and not much pain.

Stopped early tonight. Still felt sore from last week, especially right shoulder. Didn't really notice it bad till 405 set and dbs. Everything before that still felt easy and just a little sore. Should have waited a few more days to bench. Definitely will next time. Taking next week off benching.

Squatting felt ok with light weight. Plan to add weight slowly around 20lbs. each week so my knee doesn't get reaggravated again. Probably switch between rack pulls and squat machine and/or leg press every week for awhile. Also see if riding the bike helps with rehab too.
