The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Loving all the bench accessory work, Brian. Hope the arm and leg don't bother you in the run up to your meet.

Brian, i've noticed that the arm/leg issues seem to come up after you started doing ME squats/pulls on the same day. Not sure if they may be causing it, but i'm pretty sure i remember most of your training going smoothly since the operation until recently. Just looking from the outside in, may have nothing to do with it.

The arm issue just happened about 2 weeks ago and it happened on a warm-up set with 495. The leg issue im not too sure about. I can't recall when it started bothering me. I wish I did though, then it would make things easier. I'm probably going to a 3 day split after this meet and if I do i'll be squatting and pulling on different days again. So we'll see how things...thanks for your input!!!

Thanks Luna!!! I really like dips and they played a huge role along with close grips back when I competed as a teen. So I decided to bring them back. If your healthy enough to do them (no pain in your shoulder, elbows or wrists) then I highly recommend them.

    Quick update:

    Good news....ok news....bad news

    Tuesday
    02/14/12
    SQ/DL

    Squats w/ the mastadon bar
    Bar x alot
    150 x 5
    150 x 5
    240 x 5
    240 x 5
    330 x 5
    420 x 5
    510 x 5...added belt and knee sleeves
    510 x 5
    510 x 5

    GM's w/ the mastadon bar
    150 x 5
    200 x 5
    200 x 5
    200 x 5

I have to make this quick or i'll be late to work, lol. The "good news" is, the issue I was having with my leg felt pretty good today. I think it's either from the mobility work I started this week or the extra warm-ups. The "ok news" is, the weight moved ok but not as I would of liked. I had the idea of wanting to pull afterwards but I was wore out after that last set so I skipped it and did GM's instead. The "bad news" is, i'm having some problems with my lower back. I got a bad pain in my lower back, hips, down the side of my leg, to the top of my knee while I was driving home. This is something i'm going to have to take care of soon.

I call this normal after every squat or deadlift day...lol. Anyways it's probably a sciatic nerve issue like I have (at least it sounds like the same thing by your description). It never really goes away, but most of the time is not too bad, or at least it is not bad while lifting. After for a few days is always worse. When it acts up more I just go light for a week or two or take a week off and then it's usually better for awhile again. There was a couple times it was bad enough I couldn't squat or pull heavy for months (it hurt bad with the bar), but it's been a long time since then. If it's not bad while lifting, especially with 500+, it is probably not too bad though.

You bench and squat for reps looks good though the last couple days.
    Best competition lifts:
    650lbs. raw squat
    441lbs. raw bench
    580lbs. raw deadlift
    1650lbs. raw total

It usually never bothers me, but recently it has. I do have an appointment today to see my chiropractor, so we'll see how it feels after today. But i'm sure i'll have to see him a few times before I feel better. Hopefully it doesn't get to that point.

From one thing to the next!! Damn it all. The cold weather CANNOT be helping.
This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy - George Bernard Shaw
