I joined a 3 on 3 basketball league with some friends and we had our first couple games tonight. Wasn't as bad as I thought I'd be cardio wise, but my lower back started to tighten up early and after 10 -15 minutes I could barely bend over, jump, etc. Even sitting was painful, the only way to let my back calm down was to lie down on my back. I had to sit out the majority of the second game because it was just too painful to move around.
After sitting for a good 5 - 10 minutes the tightness would subside, but shortly after going back in it'd come right back.
Now that I'm home and have been sitting around for a couple hours everything feels perfectly fine.
This is the most I've run/moved around in, honestly, years, so I'm hoping it'll get better the more I play, but right now it's pretty pathetic.
Is there anything I could be taking to help with this? Obviously staying hydrated is important. I have some icy hot but forgot it put it on my lower back before we started playing. I'm already supplementing with potassium and magnesium which can help with cramps, but this isn't really a cramp, it's like my lower back is so tight my skin is going to rip if I bend over.
Edit: I should mention that I do plan on doing lots of stretching. I know stretching the shit out of my hams and hips has helped quite a bit with back pain in the past.

Yep, I think you must be lacking flexibility in the hips etc. which is causing the problem. I don't recommend stretching right before the game, do your stretching daily, but not at game time.

heat it before play and warm up really well. After Ice it. but the soreness is definately from being an exercise you havent done before.... Sort of a wierd question... but did you play shirtless? i played on the skins team once and i didnt want my gut hanging out so i kept my abs tight the whole time... and ended up getting the same soreness you did, just from keeping my abs tight the whole time....
Try doing some core and hip work on days your not playing ball to stregthen the midsection.
