The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Chest, Shoulders, Triceps workout from 03/5/12

Great workout. Got a ridiculous pump from the DB benching and fly's.

    DB Bench
Did not realize how weak I am at this lift. DB's will now take priority over BB's for benching.

I wanted to do at least one lift to test out my gym's new smith machine.

I don't know how to write what weight I use on smiths. Some dude at the gym told me once you load over 90lbs on this smith machine that the bar actually weighs 45....I think he is full of shit. But hey, it made me look good OHP'ing 155 for reps.

    Close Grip Bench Press
    115x8
    135x8
My right Shoulder started getting some tightness and pain so I stopped immediately. Didn't feel all that heavy though.

    170x8

Did some cooldowns and left. Another great workout thanks to eating like a mammoth. I think the most I have ever DB benched before today was 65's for 6 reps a while back.
Tonight is legs. I got called in to work till 10, but I think I can finagle something to get off early and hit the gym at 9 or so to give me an hour before they close.

I always liked smith machine shoulder pressing. Really enjoyed that on my previous split. Don't get that total badass feel out of it like you do with standing presses, but I think it's much more effective at hitting the delts hard.

Yeah it definitely does, I use 100% of my ROM on them too, so I am actually touching the top of my chest near the collar bone at the base of the motion. The smith did feel good for this lift.

Had a headcold for a solid week now, varying in it's intensity. I've been able to train through it, and I definitely COULD HAVE lifted today, but I want to have a badass workout instead of half assing it and then having to wait another 5 days. So I will have a badass workout tomorrow...yes...that's what I will do...tomorrow...

    Back, Biceps

So I decided to lift today even though I still have a little headcold thing going on. I felt Strong...but I had ZERO endurance for anything. I almost died after 16 reps of DB Rows. So it felt like a shitty workout...but looking back at the numbers it wasn't horrible...

    Light DL's
    135x5
    225x5
Back was aggravated and I felt like hell.

    Strict Pullups
    BWx8
    +25x7.5
    +20x6
    +10x7

    Lat Pulldowns
    120x8
    130x8
    140x7

    DB Rows
    95'sx8
    95'sx8
Jesus these killed me. I was going to do 4 sets and the weight really was coming up easy and clean, but I was so out of breath that I felt like fainting. So I went and straddled my old friend Mr.T.......bar.

    T Bar Rows
    2Plates+35x8
    Samex8
    Samex8

I want to rep out 3 plates on this. Coming soon.

    BB Shrugs
Never done these in my life. Barbell kept hitting against my package lol learned you have to lean slightly...or I just have a yhooge package.
    135x10-That was easy
225x10-Form broke down after 8 reps
    DB Shrugs
    80'sx10
    80'sx10

    RANDOM LEG PRESS
    350x8
    350x8
    350x8

    CURLS
    40'sx8
    35'sx8
    40'sx8

    ABS TOO?!?!?!?!?!
    Yes.
    Abs.
    Did crunches n'shit.

Goddamn that was alot of work for being sick. Two scoops of JACK3D will do that apparently.

Thanks man. I've just been skipping out on leg work too much, so every day that my knee feels good I try to do some type of leg lift no matter what muscle groups I am hitting that day. So it was entirely random to throw those in there. lol

    Chest/shoulders/tri's from 03/13/12

I went for heavy singles on this day just so when people ask me what I bench I can reply with something other than "I don't know." I am extraordinarily weak on the bench press.

    BB Bench
    135x6
    175x5
    185x3
    195x1
    205x1
215x1- PR- came up very easy
225xmiss...I know I can do this but I was totally fried by this point apparently.
    185x4

So that was dissapointing. lol. I never ever lift heavy singles so even though I hit a PR I was expecting much more.

    DB Bench
    65x'sx8
    70'sx8
    65'sx8

    Cable Fly's
    40'sx8
    40'sx8
    30'sx8

^Took it easy on the other chest lifts

    Smith Seated OHP
    135x8
    135x8

    Lateral Raises
    20'sx8
    20'sx8

Triceps were pretty much done at this point...So I hit them anyway...

    Pushdowns
    160x8
    150x10
    150x10

    Back, Biceps- Workout from 03/14/12

Dead's felt pretty good this day. I may switch to a higher rep range on these with lighter weight. Or. I might not. We'll see.

    Deadlifts
    135x10
    225x5
    265x5 felt relatively easy
    225x5

Back is aggravated today from these^....

    Weighted Chins
    BWx8
    +35x8
    +25x7
    BWx8

    T Bar Rows
    2Platesx8
    2P's+35x8
    2P's+35x7
    2P's+25x6

    One arm Cable Pulldowns
    160x8
    150x8

    DB Shrugs
    80'sx10
    70'sx10

    Alt. DB Curls
40'sx8 These are feeling lighter all the time
    40'sx8
    35'sx8
    35'sx8

Pretty solid I suppose. SUPER DOMS from these past two consecutive workouts. Also, weight is around 185 fluctuating greatly all the time. So to make calories easier I have started the HGOCMAD diet(Invented it myself). Half gallon of chocolate milk after every workout. Delish. Sometimes skim. Sometimes 1%. Rarely whole. I'm wondering if I'll make my goal of between 190-200lbs in time to get cut up for summer....
