The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Friday 9/14/12 - Squat

    Squat:
    135 x some
    225x5
    275x3
    315x2
    385x1
Working Sets (added belt and wraps)
    430(90%) x 2 x 3 sets

    Pause Squats:
    225x5
    225x5
    225x5
    225x5
    225x5

    Hanging Leg Raises:
    3x10

    GHR:
    3x10

I love the fact that 430 for a double was EASY! Gonna see a big PR in 6 weeks! Wanting to go over 500 for the first time. The pause squats were something I've never tried so I went light and I really liked them. I finally took some video of my lifts today so I'll post that in little bit as soon as I upload it. Hard to believe I was squatting 405 for a max about 9 months ago.

    Saturday 9/15/12 - Bench Assistance

Bench (60% for 10 with 45 seconds rest between sets):
    205x10
    205x10
    205x10
    205x10
    205x6

    Barbell Rows:
    185x10x4 sets

    Inverted Rows:
    BW x 10 x 3 sets

    Band Pushdowns/Dbell Curls Superset:
    3 sets

I think I am going to increase the weight on my low rest sets to 225 when I hit 50 reps with 205. Other than that, nothing much to say. Pretty typical uper assistance.

technique is everything in this game! Like what you're doing with the bench assistance days a hell of a lot. Still think its deceptively clever and effective! (as you can tell i'm easily amused)

    Sunday 9/23/12 - The week's work

    Monday - Deload Deadlift
Didn't pull. Just did some light GHRs and some mobility work

    Wednesday through Friday
Had to be out for town for a conference so no lifting (small town with no gym. at least not one with a bench!). Friday night I did deload squats. 6x3 @ 240 and some light assistance.

    Saturday - Deload Bench
    5x5 @ 185 and some light assistance

So....life is crazy busy for the next 2 weeks and I'm left with no choice but to combine squat/dead workouts to at least get them in. I'll also have to shift days so I'm planning on squatting and pulling today. We'll see how it goes.

    Sunday 9/23/12 - Deadlift

    Deadlift (sumo):
    135x8
    135x3
    225x3
    315x2
    365x2
    405x2
    Working Sets (added belt)
    465 (90%) x 2 x 3 sets

    RDL:
    185x8
    225x8
    275x8
    275x8

    GHR/Hanging Leg Raise Superset:
    bw x 10 x 3 sets each

So a couple changes. First of all, I found a hole in my schedule later this week to get my squat workout in so no need to combine them! Happy about that. Second, yes I switched back to sumo. Straight up my sumo is better than my conventional. Last time (3-4 weeks ago) that I pulled this weight in this rep/set scheme I did it conventional and BARELY got my reps. Today, the weights were exploding off the floor. It literally felt like I could have gotten 10 with this weight. I switched to conventional half way through my last cycle because I had a bad day pulling sumo. I should have stuck to my guns and realized it was just a bad day but like many of us on here, I will do anything I can to up my total so I switched to conventional at the last minute and my total suffered. Lesson learned.

    Dead: 525

Nice job JK! I wish I could pull sumo as adequately as I could conv.! I think it's more a technical skill and looks cooler haha! Whatever you feel more comfortable doing and lift the most weight is always gonna be the way to go in the end though! Good to see you killing those weights this time round!

Yeah, for some reason I've always wanted to be a better conventional puller but I'm just not built that way I guess. I'll try to post video of todays pulls later but it honestly felt like I had at least mid 500s in me today.

JK, if you're switching styles and your max is higher, be sure to update the # on the spreadsheet and stay on track. No sense on working #'s based on a max that's not really a max anymore!

Thanks for the heads up Tone. Actually the max I gave you was my sumo max but since my conventional max was only 5 pounds less I just used the same numbers. By the way, loving how iits going so far. Feeling stronger than I ever have.
