    Yoga - before, after, or on rest days

    When would be the best time to do yoga in conjunction with weight lifting? Before the workout, after, or on rest days?

    You will have gotten stronger when the weight that feels heavy is actually heavier than the weight that feels heavy now. Then the weight that feels heavy now will be a warmup for the weight that feels heavy then. But the weight will always feel heavy or you're not lifting enough weight. Clear? -Rippetoe

    I would think yoga would be most beneficial when the muscles are warm and blood is flowing, so based on that after. Maybe on off days, but I wouldn't do it the night before... maybe if you have 2 off days, do it on the first and rest on the second.

    This is pure speculation and anyone is welcome to debunk.

    I think it would depend on the intensity of the yoga.

    Personally I do very light yoga routine randomly after supper during the week. Probably around 3 times per week on average. I do it mainly for the stretches (mostly that's all it feels like to me - a stretching routine). It's about 25mins long and light enough that I don't feel like it interferes with my lifting.

    Now if you're talking about doing an hour long hot yoga or something crazy like that - it may be better to do it on your off days.

    Yes, Yes, and Yes... Depending on the type of Yoga, it is a great way to stretch your muscles as well as aid in recovery. However, if you are going to do something like Bikram (hot) Yoga, I would reserve that for non-training days.
