According to some guy who used to play Football in the US, I can get my bench up from 200+lbs to 400lbs in just 1 year.
Is this crazy talk or...
thats pretty unrealistic to say the least
It's easily possible for the very genetically gifted. However say you started on a 135 bench then got to 200 in a few months then no way.

With a trainer who really knows what hes doing, serious training, and with a diet of 5000+ calories, its doable.
On your own? A lot less likely.
Some enhanced vitamins would probably help.

Go for it if you want it, but yeah, pretty hard to say the least haha.

I'd say setting your sites on being able to handle 300 comfortably in a year is a more realistic goal.
Just to add it was 450lbs but I removed 50lbs to try and make it more realistic
A guy I lift with almost did this. His 1RM went up 190 pounds in 13 months. I would've said it was impossible if I didn't see it, but this kid is a freak. His max was 80 to start with and now 270. He had never lifted a weight and had no form. We hammered those out and his linear progression didn't stop until around 230. All of his other lifts are no way comparable (squat= 135, dead= 205, ohp= 115). He is just a bench freak. All that being said to go from 200 to 400 in a year......if you had a professional staff, the perfect training, the perfect diet, and all the cell tech you could handle, still no.

I've never seen that much of an increase that quick raw. Especially not with any kind of form. I've seen and done that type of increase in my shirted bench when I finally committed to spend a solid year learning how to use it, but no where near that raw. I'd be very sceptical as to that being true. Try for all you can gain, but don't be disappointed if it falls considerably short of that. I've found it best to think of lifting and gaining strength more like a mile run than a 100 meter dash. If you fly in at it all out you'll burn out before you get there. You have to be in a hurry to win but patiently pace your race. Then you'll finish with your best time, or in our case biggest lift; even if it takes some time to reach the finish line. This approach has let me stay in the game (lifting ) and making gains for 42 years (I'm 56 Y.O.) and have made my best lifts all since 50. You can stay in this for most of your life and enjoy it a long time if you take the right approach. Good luck!

I was never a "gifted" bencher but I did calisthenics before hitting the gym and so when my max was about 70-80 lbs I maxed 200 in about 7 months even though I took time off for two or three weeks total because of minor injuries. In exactly a year with setbacks from school and a pec pull I hit 235 lbs. I never took any magic supplements, just a lot of milk and some regular meat. Never bulked or cut while being a lean 6 3' guy with long arms. I agree the guy was most likely bluffing but it is possible to come near it with a pure beginner to training. I would be impressed if anyone went from 250 to 450 in a year, even if they took PEDs.
