    I decided to try a 585 cert at 6" today. Originally, I was going to do it in thicker wraps, but to honor Superman (Man of Steel release date), I went with single Ironmind wraps. I knew this would be a brutal bend, as my best before was a tough 565. I took it to just under 3" in the one-minute, then in disappointment, I let my form break down a little, and the wraps came loose, then it was over. I will get this bar for sure by the end of the month!

    LOL Yeah, it's a nasty bar. Drillrod, calibrated at 585lbs. ... weight required to bend the bar 40 degrees. It's even worse when you get to the crush zone, 'cause that's when it really ramps up. No idea what it takes at that stage.

    I made another attempt at one of my 585lb. N bars (have two left). In order to qualify as an official cert (among many other things), the bar has to be bent to within 2" at the edges, in under one-minute. I took it to 2.5" at exactly one minute. After time expired, I stopped the bend and then tried to hit it a few more times, but it was done at that point. I should probally wait a week-or-two before making another attempt, but it's going to be hard!

    I did a cert. attempt and then tried the IM Hub, at which I just missed 55lbs., due to my fingers being smashed up a little. So, I tried five more times, and still couldn't get it up all the way. My thumb got pretty wrecked up from the effort. A little irritated with this, I tried one of the PL000s I recently bought from TSC, and took it down. This was the second-ever PL000 I have bent fully, past 180. (I've taken a lot of them to 150-160), but only one other to past 180.

    A few days ago, I got a bad case of poison ivy (real bad!). I was pulling down vines (without gloves), actually cutting them and pulling them outward. At first, I didn't think anything of it, as it didn't look like poison ivy at all. But, after a few minutes, I got worried and was thinking, "How much do I really know about poison ivy?" Not much at all! The first marks appeared within the hour and then just one area two days after. But I have it all over my arms and legs now, and its been about a week.

    I had no choice today but to deadlift (meet coming up). It was painful/itchy from the bar and even getting the straps up, but I couldn't wait much more to deadlift. At least it's done.

    Squats were feeling pretty good today, and then after my 405 rep, I stepped on a 10d nail. The nail was through a board, turned upside down. So, the top-half of the nail went into my foot, attaching the board too. I pulled it out quick and took my shoe off, and there was a good amount of blood through the sock. It hurt, but not too bad at the moment, so I tried one more rep at 475 then called it a day (and went to get a shot!).

    The poison oak seems to be on the downswing (after more than 2 weeks!). Still, it was very uncomfortable putting on the shirt, as it's all over my arms. This was my last heavy bench session before the meet. I have spent zero time in the shirt leading up to this meet too (something I experimented with, due to injury, with my last meet, when I hit a bench PR). This was actually my first rep in the F6 in almost 2 months. I had someone call signals and it was pretty smooth. The single-ply F6 I have been using is not tight, but not oversized either. It doesn't alter my raw technique too much, and felt very similar to my work in the Slingshot these past few weeks.

    I don't know what to say after the first two attempts. I originally planned to jump to 500 on the second, and then maybe 510-520 for a third. But missing on the first two killed the plan and really messed with my psyche, as both attempts felt awesome and textbook as planned. Going into that last squat was tough, and I decided to bump up 15lbs. to a least salvage something if I could. My set-up had to change on the spot, due to the squat stands being so close. (I had to take an extra 4-5 steps back to clear the stands.) This didn't really affect me too much, I think, but it was just one additional unplanned variable.


    Bench Press
    350 - good lift
    375 - good lift
    400 - no lift

    My head was still spinning from the squats, so I dropped my opener from 365 to 350. The first two attempts felt awesome and I had no elbow pain at all. I decided to take 400 for my last attempt, which was the first time I have ever attempted 400 in a meet. (I've done 400+ several times in training, but my meet PR was 390.) I took it down under control, got the press command, pressed it relatively smooth, and locked it out, but had a little lower body movement off the bench near lockout. So close of a lift!

    My head was back in the game by the time deadlifts came around, but the meet was moving so fast, the deadlifters (only one flight) were already on their second warmups when I finished my last bench attempt. So I kicked it into overdrive to switch over to my deadlifting stuff and jumped in. I got all of my warmups in, but way faster than I had planned. 485 was an easy opener. I've never taken as heavy as 525 on a second attempt, but it was a pretty smooth lift. I decided to try 555 for my third attempt, which would give me a 1400 total. (My goal for the meet was 1450, but was derailed by some close calls. If not for the misses, I would have probally taken 540-545 on my last attempt.) 555 was the most I have ever attempted on deadlift too. I broke the ground, started up with it, then got a little high in the hips and just lost it.

    All-in-all, it was a disappointment to only total 1370, but was a mental win after going through what happened on my first two squat attempts. The meet was run very fast, which was good and bad. Good in that I didn't really experience any back tightness like I usually do between lifts; bad, in that I was rushing through all of the warmups. I'm probally going to do another meet before summer is out. I met and talked to some cool guys today. One person I met at the meet ended up handing off for me on bench, and really helped me out with some awesome handoffs. This meet was definitely a learning experience for me.
